Hello
I'm working on the Bronco M1114 Up-Armored HA (Heavy) Tactical Vehicle and I also purchased the Voyager turret upgrade. I was a little shocked to notice one major difference and that is the size of turrets. Broncos is either a lot smaller or Voyagers is a lot larger. Voyagers is wider and higher. My question then becomes which one is the more accurate? Usually the thinking with aftermarket is that is to upgrade and correct the flaws of a kit, but is that the case here? I actually like the Bronco kit turret and I might hold off using the voyager set, its a lot easier tto build and it actually has some nice thin detailed parts, but I'm trying to stay accurate.
If anyone has some insight that would be great.
Thanks
Jim

I happen to know that the Bronco turrets, on their first M1114 and the HA version, do end up slightly smaller than voyager and legend OGPK turrets. The thing I'm not sure about is which one is more accurate. I want to say the larger sized ones are more accurate from a technical standpoint, but for whatever reason people tend to think the smaller Bronco ones LOOK more correct just by eyeballing it. I would look to the advice of someone more qualified to provide precise judgment, but those are my two cents

A similar issue with the earlier kit had been mentioned in this thread :

James ,, In my hunting of Hummer pics which i have over 1000 of now i have found to date 5 different turrets on Hummers .. One i have a pic of makes even the Legend turret look small ..this thing has double windows on each side ..never seen anything like it before ...so you could look at it like its right in size ... cause of a dio i am building i have 2 of the legend turrets that are going to be used .so I am hoping that they are right also .. best idea i can think of is to ask Heavyarty

Phil, the debate is mostly about the two most common turrets, the GPK and OGPK, which have been replicated by Legend, Academy (OGPK only), and Bronco. While I have not assembled Academy's OGPK yet, there are significant size differences between Legends and Bronco's turrets.
From the sound of it, Voyagers OGPK is closer in size to Legends, which means much larger than Bronco's and Academy's. From that thread you will see that Legend did not correct the turret ring dimensions for a conversion from a M1025, and therefore had a larger turret. However I cannot explain why Voyager's turret would be larger if they had the correct turret ring dimensions to start with.
There are probably 20 or so different turret designs, but we are specifically talking about OGPK and GPK.
James, I was planning on buying the Voyager set for the overhead protection PE, but since there appears to be a size difference I may wind up scratch building it. From what was found in the thread posted by Frenchy, Bronco's dimensions appeared more correct on their GPK, so I would assume that they followed suit with their OGPK.
I am sure somebody with first hand knowledge can step in and help.

Damn the luck. I sent very precise measurements to someone a few years ago (Boggie perhaps?) but don't have them myself. Maybe that person will see this and respond.
I even measured the thicknesses of the two armored plates, which are different. I seem to remember 1/4 and 3/8 but can't be sure any more.
Surely someone on here could step outside his iffice with a tape measure...

There is this drawing from Bill Ritchies PB:
Heres not been around of late so assume he's busy with work, where are ya Bill!?
I dont know if these are accurate drawings, I guess he used this for his turret, but I dont know if his turret was based on guess work or actual measurements. I've got the Legends, Voyager and Bronco turrets sat here (working on a review of Voyagers complete set) but havent had the chance yet to properly sit down and scrutinize them all. Legends turret certainly looks too large to me.

Well I figured I'd jump ahead in Academy's 1151 and start the OGPK, and as much as I thought it was identical to Bronco's, it's not. Some dimensions, vertical and lengthwise, are the same. However, Academy's OGPK is about 3mm wider.
Maybe I'll post a pic when it's built up and finished, but for now I remain puzzled. A shame all we have in our motorpool are GPK's.

So maybe You could take some dimensions of GPK?

These are in fact the drawings I made using Robert's spec, thanks again for being so kind Robert. I have them still on my Photo Bucket page if you need them. I made the front Frag 5 door as well if you need that too but it looks that the AM folks have done a great job replicating them, though I have not held them in my hands. I'll subscribe this thread in case I can be of any assistance.

Kuba, I'll be out and around next week preparing some things in the area, I'll bring a camera and tape measure, but I can't promise anything.

Kuba
If I remember correctly this drawing originated with Mother aka "Joe" or from a friend of his. I made mine to fit the old Mig resin M1114 top.

Thanks for all your input and insight guys.
After putting Broncos turret together I have decided to build the voyager one. Even if its slightly bigger while the Bronco one may be too small, the Bronco kit one just looks small and out of place from the naked eye.

Had about 2 minutes to get these measurements, they are rounded up to the nearest inch. Sorry, no weapons shields on the GPK's in the motorpool, if any of these measurements are not clear I will explain them better.
EDIT: Disregard the 29" and 33" measurements of the hatch.

Something wrong with them?

I don't believe I measured all the way to the rear hinges on the front to rear 29" measurement of the crew hatch. I should have measured the entire turret ring/hatch dimensions separately as we do have a unarmored 1151 as well.
I should be able to get those, but it may not be until late Summer/early Fall.
