Well here it is. I took all your suggestions and points and here is where I am now.
I washed the wall with oil/terp, once with black and once with burnt umber.
I pastelled the small road with some browns.
I pastelled the rocky road with blacks and grays.
I put tissue over the tarp and added some pastels.
I passed on the rubble under the wall damage - the wall is just old, not necessarily battle damaged so who know where the rubble is.
I washed the gates to darken them up a bit. Don't want really rusty ones.
I pasteled the M3A2 and Willies with matching dirt/dust color.
I pasteled the MP's feet to match the ground.
I tidied up the base. Past that CRS kicks in and I don't recall anything else I did.

The pictures are a bit blurry and a bit bright, had to hurry (life gets in the way some times). Anyway here are a couple - you can see more in my album.
