Folks I need some help. I am looking to buy Legend's M2A2 Detail set (# LF1189) ... http://www.hobbyeasy.com/en/data/43176.html . I can not get a clear idea however of what is included - resin and photo etch wise. I can't find any pictures of the contents, nor any reviews of the set. I am hoping that some around here has this set and is willing to post some pictures and/or details of the contents. Any help would be greatly appreciated .

Thanks,

Sean

I have the set at home. If no one gets you what you need before tonight, I will take some pictures.

I appreciate it. In your opinion, is the set worth it? I have the Voyager photo etch set already, is the Legend one the same, better, details different things??

Thanks again,

Sean

Yeah, I saw those Frenchy, but if I am seeing it right, all of the grey parts are resin since the kit itself is tan. If so, that is a lot of resin in this set - it seems to basically replace the whole outside of the kit. Seemed odd to me, so that is why I wanted pictures of the actual contents to see if I was interpreting the product pictures right.

It is the other way around. The kit parts have been painted primer gray and the resin is in tan. The set includes the tan resin pieces and the brass PE. It is a good set to update the M2A2.

In fact the tan parts are those from the Legend set ! The models the sets are designed for are painted grey to make the sets parts standing out . As far as I can tell, you'll get new headlight clusters, new turret hatches, a mantlet "cover", new vision blocks for the troop compartment, a new armor plate for the lower hull front...etc..

EDIT : Gino has beaten me to it !

yes, what Gino said. Personally I like the set and plan to use only it to detail my Bradley. I do not have the Voyager set but I am betting there would be a lot of duplication but some added items like the resin bits

Ah, thanks guys that solved my confusion! Jason, I would still appreciate some pictures if it would not be too much hassle for you. From what I see and you tell me, I defiantly am gonna get this set now.

Thanks again folks - this is why I love this place .

Hello from Florida!

I have both Legends sets TUSK 1 and 2....both are worth the money.

Here is my TUSK 1 a2 (Tamiya kit)

The Voyager set is impressive, but whoa...a lot of work.

He is asking about the M2A2 Bradley Update set. Not the Abrams TUSK set.

Ryan,

Nice looking build! I had the TUSK 1 set, but recently got rid of it cause I liked the looks of the TUSK 2 tank better. Still waiting to get my hands on that set, really looking forward to it. I only hope that I did not mess up, I have the Dragon kit, but Lucky Model had the set for Tamiya really cheap so I went ahead and got it. Looked to me that most of the parts were the same, so again hopefully I did screw myself by doing this.

As for the M2A2 Voyager set, I need to go through it again, from the pictures it does look like some of the things will be duplicates - but I think the kit will benifit from both sets.

Hey Sean sorry to detour your origainal request, thanks for the comments.

More shots can be seen here...

Had I to do it over I would use the Dragon kit...the non skid was a religous experience on the Tamiya Abrams. If you don't know the Tam Abrams does not have non skid..among other issues.

You will be fine. The Tamiya set just has a few more items that are not in the Tamiya kit, but are in the Dragon kit. You will just have a few extra items.

Going back to the Bradley can anyone explain to us if whether or not the Legend conversion addresses some of the "issues" associated with the Tamiya's kit? I guess there was an issue with the turret.

Thank you in advance!

There are no "major" issues with the Tamiya or Academy Bradleys. All the issues are in the details. The basic shapes are all correct. For a detailed description of what details can be "corrected" on the Tamiya and Academy kits, check out Pavel's Accurizing and detailing
the Tamiya M2A2 IFV kit
article.

Tamiya's M2A2 ODS and Academy's M2A2 OIF kits are about the same in quality. They both represent current Bradleys from about 2003-2005.

The Tamiya one represents a rebuilt to latest standards M2A2 ODS version as used by 3 ID in the initial invasion (March '03). It has most of the ODS mods that were seen at that time, but still shows parts that were removed or changed as well. It also has you adding obsolete parts such as the flotation system rods on the rear and left side of the hull.

The Academy M2A2 OIF kit represents a new-build M2A2 ODS from about the same time as Tamiya's. It has many newer features that Tamiya left off, like the new driver's hatch hinge, anti-foul bars in front of the driver's hatch, etc. It also has nicer side armor, sprockets with lightening holes, and better details in some areas. It has incorrect, old-style, triangle block track in the kit though. The triangle block track hasn't been used since the mid-'90s. Furthermore, Academy molded the track incorrectly as well, with the pads being molded 180 degrees from how they should be. AFV Club makes a great set of indi-link, square block, plastic track for them though.

Even with the need for replacement track, I prefer the Academy kit over Tamiya's.

Here are reviews on each from PMMS.
