Hi all, just thought I would post up what I have been working on the last few days, It is a corner of a factory ruin. Still a ways to go on it and I am working on the small roof that will go on the archway.

All comments welcome, thanks!

Yo Chris,

Splendid scratchwork!

What did you use for the wall...some kind of foam?

Up to next update...

Thanks guys!

The medium I am working with is called balsa foam, it is the best stuff I have used to scratch structures. It is very easy to use as well

Interesting and good work!
I also thought about the material, which was used.
Balsa (the wood?) as a foam-type is not available in my country. (but perhaps...)

I also had ideas in mind, to build one or some buildings and things using different materials.
At this time I have a project with an artillery gun-site, for which I look for some inspiration of materials for use in my scene.

greetings and thanks for showing...

Thanks Soeren,

The foam is not related to balsa (the wood) rather it is a Phenolic carving foam designed for architectural models and prototyping. Sign makers also use it. If it is not available locally, you can order it online and have it shipped. The product itself is on the pricey side so I don't know how much it would be with shipping to Germany.

Although I am very impressed with the foam, carving plaster blanks can have just as good results, just make sure to carve it while it is still "green" and not fully cured.

Other materials including heavy card stock, cork, plastic and wood all make great building mediums for architecture.

Hope this helps you out for your dio

when ever you might travell to Belgium look for this store

http://www.schleiper.com/index.cfm?FuseAction=ChooseShop&method=TA&language=NL&Supplies=ArtSupplies&CFID=265762&CFTOKEN=17456011

then ask for architect cardboard, they have it in 4mm 10 15 approx

for making the bricks you can also make a stamp yourself with an old brush, remove hairs and form to a rectangular shape you disire for the scale you need, gently remove one cardboard side , and press the stamp gently into the foam, the marks will be of a brick, takes a while , but practice makes....
