Told you it was right around the corner! Juat have to wait a year or so for Dragon to release the standard version. Cyber Hobby just announced a 1/35 Desert Raider on PMMS, but I can't link to the pic.

Heres the pic. This sounds like a good release, wonder if it'll be better than the Tamiya one.

I see Terry is being his usual again.

Ok, cross-circuiting to A...

Why oh why do we need another Jeep? Haven't AFV Club, Tamiya, and MiniArt covered the bases?

It looks like MiniArt's Bantam with extra parts (which is fine but I'll wait for MiniArt's to come out for less).

But a better Lee would be welcome.

This will be much better than the Tamiya one. The SAS jeep from Tamiya was based on the original Tamiya Jeep. It's straight out of the 70s. The newer Jeep kit is quite good, but Tamiya never incorporated the SAS parts (redone or even originals) with the newer jeep kit.

Tamiya didn't because the LRDG didn't use that brand of jeep. Tamiya's new tool jeep is a Willys

The LRDG used Bantams and I believe some Fords.

whilst I have seen photos of LRDG jeeps they are pretty rare as they preferred the 15 & 30 CWT class of vehicles. The SAS on the other had used Jeeps and most photos of these show the later Ford styled design (It was Ford who introduced the stamped grille and not Willy's). The external differences between the Ford and the Willy's3/4 ton GP are pretty hard to see in 35th.

A more than welcome release. Of course DML have had a Jeep in the range for quite few years in 35th. it just happens to be a remote control one!

Don't the Fords have an integral grill and the Willys a grill guard? Otherwise yes, practically the same?

To the best of my knowledge. All parts are the same on the ford and willys on standardized production vehicles. All parts will interchange. The only concern able difference is the names stamped in the sheet metal.

(Edit) Early Willys had a slat grill, around 1941.

It is defintiely not as good as the Tamiya. . I am half way through th build and there are problems with locator holes for the seats, Insufficient instuctions, over moulded seat frames:and those are the problems I've encountered so far.
Cyber Hobby/Dragon has really taken a step backward on this one.
I will finish it though it has probably taken me longer to get through the first half of the construction than it woudl have taken to build the entire Tamiya kit.

Definitely concur with the above. I would stick with the Tamiya Willys and either Legend's SAS Conversion or pieces from Tamiya's old SAS Jeep to convert their new one.

Here is a complete review of it at PMMS that lists and shows all the issues with it.

Here is a photo of an LRDG Jeep - in this case a Guards Patrol vehicle, possibly driven by Guardsman Wann

Details to note are the lack of a front bumper (replaced by shackles), condenser, G Patrol flag, twin Vickers K with collector bags, Jerry can (mounted both sides of scuttle). A sun compass can just be seen below gun butts.

More LRDG Jeeps. Note civilian tread tyres...

Fully loaded T Patrol Jeep on way to Barce Raid (Operation Caravan) September 1942. Major Peniakoff - better known as "Popski" who later formed the PPA (Popski's Private Army) is resting in the shade.

Yes, more or less are identical, but you can find some sites where is a comparision between Willys and Ford details

http://www.rensjeep.com/MBvsGPW.html

http://earlymb.webs.com/identification.html

So...the cheaper Tamiya kit still rules...
It seems to me quite strange that DML kit has all these inaccuracies.
