Hi
Quote" Tracks appear to be "Magic Tracks" which, given the number of kits being released of late with DS vinyl tracks, I found a bit surprising. I also suspect it will be a "Smart Kit" as the amount of brass seems to be minimal."Unquote
Actually when DML use Magic Tracks they indicate as such. These have not been marked as Magic Tracks. Opinion on other forums is that these are older tracks from a previous kit and will be sprue mounted requiring removal and clean up before assembly.
If it was to be a Smart Kit as you say then Dragon would indicate it as such on the poster, but I can't see that distinctive logo anywhere. Certain it doesn't look to have loads of extras, metal barrel etc. but Dragon's cut down a lot on that sort of thing "out the box" these days anyway.
Also your link to the item in the post above doesn't work properly

It's a singular version of the KT that one could easily create oneself, but DML is saving us the trouble of buying wheel hubs and transport tracks. While hardly worthy of great discussion, for those who prefer to build OOB, I can see a decent market arising for this kit. The hubs alone are $9 from Tank Workshop and are the Tiger I version anyway (perhaps Dave Byrden is lurking and can say whether the Tiger II hubs are different).
So for the average kit builder, this is just another interesting variant, while for the tread heads, it's boring. Both are correct.

Actually it does come with a turned aluminum gun barrel (with styrene muzzle brake), you just have to read the tiny print on the item pics. So is this just the previously released 'late Tiger - no zim' kit with new tracks? Didn't the final version have extra U-shaped loops welded on the turret sides for attaching camo foliage?

I'm a non KT guy and have a few questions that someone here might be able to help out with:
It's been mention that this is a older KT-how is the quailty of these kits?
It's also been mentioned that the tracks are old-are they poor quaility? Hard to assemble?
Thanks, Dan

Now now there...there are a few differences that have been over looked...New front fenders... new rear hatch on the turret ..different air vent cover... These along with the new sprockets and tracks should make for another nice looking KT ...can we all say octopus scheme???

The KT that this kit is most likely based on is no more than 11/2 - 2 yrs old. Therefore it's still a top of the line kit and the best KT model available...until the next generation of KT models!

If they are transport tracks they won't be the old sprue mounted links as they were for the wider combat tracks...

I've read that they could be a set of tracks from a previous Jagdtiger kit . Was a Jagdtiger ever produced by Dragon with narrow transport tracks and if they are these would that make them sprue mounted or not ?

DML prodcuced a jagdtiger in the 90's (I own two) that only came with sprue mounted transport tracks. They are a bit of a chore as they are multi-piece tracks, you have to glue the "attaching" bar whatever the heck it's called as well as each indy track. It was one of the few DML kits that had a photo of the finished kit rather than box art. Not a bad kit for it's day but I am not too sure how accurate it was, I am more familiar with panzer III/IV, Stugs, Tiger I, etc. HTH.
PS DML also sold the transport tracks seperately when they used to sell tracks kits.

If the tracks are DS then I'll pass on the kit.
If the tracks are Magic Tracks then I will buy one from the LHS.
Put both in the box and I'll buy the kit from the LHS.

Looks like the tracks mystery is solved -they are a slightly retooled version of the nineties era Jagdtiger transpo tracks....the bridge link and connecting bars are new, but the main link is the original tooling. Apparently there are some problems with the instructions too (not surprisingly)...it comes with extra parts for slight variations, apparently, which also are not mentioned in the instructions....

In the market for a first King Tiger kit, looks like I'd better buy another kit with Magic Tracks?
Went over the kit instruction scans at another site and the track assembly step wasn't explained very well.
