I recently got two sets of Italeri WWII jerry cans, and two Tamiya Allied Vehicles Accessory kits. I do not need my German and British cans. If you need them, give me a message with your address, and how many you really need.

Use them up, unless they are to be fitted on a brand-new vehicle, or for the PTO.

Make them up as a vehicle load, as the German & Brit petrol cans look roughly the same as Yank petrol (not water) cans from the top.

Both sides used each other's cans in theatre, They were especially prized in the Desert, & Italian campaigns, untill the British pattern Jerry can arrived.

There is a reason the Brits called their cans er.. Jerry Cans!

Jon--Good idea. Did not realize each side grabbed each other's cans. Still, if anybody is really in need, and short of cash, I have a bunch. BTW, what is PTO?

Pacific Theatre of Operations, & ETO is European Theatre of Ops...

In the ETO, cans were stored UPRIGHT if full, & flat if empty. Find a book called "Redball Express" for pics.

I have seen a web site dedicated just to cans, but here is the gist.
The Germans had the Idea, & all their cans were virtually the same, but many arms of service had logos or wording stamped on them. They painted them vehicle colour, Grey or Sand, & a white cross for water.

Italians also hade a version, copied from the Germam pattern.

The Brits used 'Flimsies' 1 gal cans similar to metal oil cans, but lost a lot of fuel and oil in transport because they were err.... flimsy! They found some German ones & copied them.

The Yanks had 2 patterns, with different filler caps (round with 4 tabs for water & with a pour spout for fuel)
