How do you paint clear plastic wine bottles?

Anyone have any suggestions for painting clear plastic wine bottles? Especially to make them look like they actually have wine in them.

Some Tamiya clear green just doesn't look the part. I was thinking of maybe mixing in some clear red and/or orange to make the bottle a little darker.

What about dyes that would be able to tint the plastic?

I'm tempted to try and hollow out the bottom of the bottle to fill it with some red "wine".

Thanks,
Sherb

Hi sherb

Could you please let them see a pic of the bottle which you want to paint?

It would be probably easier give you some advise

Anyway i think that clear tamiya colors may be the best way for the glass. For the wine you should use some clear resin colored in red which you could pour in your bottle because you need a "mass" of material which depict the wine. I think that just some red paint wouldn't be enough (still water Valleyo colored with a drop of acrilyc red? A little bit of water effect resin?...)

cheers

wine bottles are more fun when emptied!

Future with food colouring/acrylic color added or Tamiya 'smoke' range.

Dip bottle half-way in Future tinted dark red, allow to dry, then dip the whole thing in Future tinted dark green or brown, for an impression of emptiness.

Another option is to drill out from the bottom the wine bottle. Fill the void with a clear red, once dry paint the outside with a clear green, paint the cork and voila!

depending on the color you want, you could do it with tamiya paints. they have clear colors. i would imagine you could use food colors as wellor even do filters

Alright, this is a bit off topic, but I got to thinking-with so many of you claiming to have "empty wine bottles" how many of you are saving the foil capsules from said bottles? Cheers.
