Hello, guys I have started building Revell's Tiger H as my participation in the Tiger Tank campaign.
I am also using Part's pe set for this kit and a a replacement aluminum barrel from RB.

I started by removing all the molded tools from the chassis.

I subsituted them with PE or scratchbuilt. I also rounded some really fine copper wire around the tubes of the Feifel air cleaner system to give them a more flex look.
I replaced the cap of the exhausts with the PE and put the exhaust cover, I think I'll leave the other one without the cover.

That's all for now, more later.

Hi Alexander
Your first pictures look nice.
Tiger is a great model. But i don´t like the greet plastic from revell.
I'm curious to see what you can make with the pe set from part.
I think it´s a good choice for the revell tiger to take him up to a highter level.
The only part I would change are the handles of the cutter.
They look to flat. I would make it rounder with plastic sheet.

Alexander,
A nice start to your Tiger and I really like what you did with the air cleaner tubes. Revell makes some really detailed kits in this scale but I must agree with Daniel, their plastic leaves a lot to be desired. I'll keep a watch on how this one proceeds.

Watch those tracks as well. There are no corresponding holes in the tracks for the sprocket teeth to slot into, so you will need to remove the teeth that are affected.
I have shelved my build and will purchase a Trumpy kit to sacrifice for the tracks.

Thank for the tip Sabredog. I'll see what I can do with Revell's tracks.

Just to mention a small progress I made.

I wanted to share a way of making seams similar to these that some fellows have shown here, that I am currently working on. I used Plastruct 0.1'' plastic rod. It's very flex and will shape easily once glued progressively. Caution not imprint your fingerprints though.

I think it will make nice weld seams. What do you think?

Looks like a great way to add weld beads...you might even want to try randomly scoring it with a hobby knife to give it that distinct rough weld look. Looks great so far, I'll be watching your build closely so I can do the Tiger justice for my Pz series!

@PanzerAlexander – Alexander,
Your Tiger build is coming along nicely with the Part photo-etch enhancement. I like the wire modification you used for creating a more realistic and to scale ducting effect but I don’t know if this would be correct for the actual material used?

Never the less this is an excellent technique. Will keep dropping by to check on your progress.

Thank for taking the time to comment:
@Erich : Yes I'll score it with a hobby knife the pic is right after it was glued.
@Eddy . It was the closest match I could get for what I saw in this pic.Still it's overscale but I dont mind.

Just a quick update. I assembled the gun barrel, the storage bin and tow cables and the spare tracks holders.
It's coming along quite nicely, I hope the tracks wont give me much trouble, as it's goingto be diff to handle the model with all these goodies on.

@PanzerAlexander – Alexander,
Thanks for posting the photograph link to the ducting. First time seeing it up close and in color too. The wire modification is then correct and to scale for your build.
Alexander, you could try a thin mixture of diluted Squadron putty and liquid cement over the wires to help tie them together and fill in the deep recesses between them, thus creating a smoother transition between the wires, of course try this method on a piece of sprue first to see how it comes out before doing it on your build if your interested? I was going to do this and photograph the results for you but have not been able to do so and your progressing on your build rather quickly so I might already be to late with this posting?
Anyhow, the add-ons and modifications are coming along nicely.

Excellent detailling Alexander. Great model and very good idea using 0.1plastic rod to make weld seams.

Hi Alexander
I agree with the other comments about that dark green Revell plastic, I dont like it either. With all your extras this is a way cool build. I built one of these out of the box years ago, its not a patch on yours

cheers

Guess I missed this one (and a dozen others)! I love these types of build logs and as always you are doing a great job at enhancing it, Alexander. However, all that PE looks frightening.

Can't wait to see more.

After taking a short break (I painted my first big scale figure) I returned to good old Braille scale.
Just posting my progress, I believe that the model will be ready for paint late this week.
Still don't know how the weld lines are going to look, I suspect I'll be working again post priming.

Alexander,
I had missed your Braille Scale Tiger until now. Your details and explanations are top-notch.
I think your "wired" air hoses from the Feifel air cleaner filters need a thin covering to replicate the look of the photo you referenced. Maybe a thin plastic wrapped over the wire and thinly coated with glue or solvent to draw it in, or coating the coiled wire with something like Testor's Canopy Glue. Does this make sense?
Please keep this going, and show us plenty of detail.
OUTSTANDING!
ESSAYONS!

Hi Jeff, thank you for the positive feedback.
I am thinking about coating the tubes with Mr Surfacer. It should sweeten the wire texture just enough.
I am in need of some opinions. I have not much experience on DAK vehicles so I scanned some colors that I could use for the base color.
Here is the pic

The top left is Humbrol is Sand acrylicand I think is exactly the same color as their usual enamel Sand. The rest is Vallejo.
I the past I have used as base color the light brown which I after washed with Burnt Umber, to get a more reddish liik but now I am thinking about using the Humbrol lightened down a little bit.
Any opinions are welcome. If anyone uses another Vallejo color please let me know.

Hi Alex. Very nice work! The pe kit looks great and has really improved the detail.
Looking forward to seeing some paint on it.

Tim, Daniel thanks for taking the time to comment.
Construction is complete. I used Dragon's DS tracks which are better in detail than Revell's.

Next is priming. From what I've searched seems that I can only place my Tiger in Africa (The rectangular exhaust covers with the heat dissipation slits narrows my choises).
More soon, P.A.
