Hello guys , I have started building Hasegawa Sdkfz 7/2 for the soft skinned campaign.

I will be also using Part PE ser for this kit, and an excellent Schatton replacement barrel.

Last but not least, as a guide I'll be oftenly checking Beyond's excellent Topic on the 3.7 flak which can be found in the following address. (special thanks and credits) :

More soon, P.A.

I took me a while to found this forgotten topic .

Anyway I managed to make some progress with this project too. After looking in the market to replace the kits horrible tracks I decided to try the resin tracks from Tracks and Troops.
If you do buy them keep in mind that they are narrower than the kit's so you have to adjust the outer track wheels (the ones overlapping all the rest) and move them further inside else they wont look right.
Besides that, getting the resin tracks in place is a time consuming and patient testing procedure as the fragile resin will probably break to numerous individual track links that you'll have to place one by one even on the straight sections of the track. Trimming the drive sprocket teeth is required as well as removing the teeth from the tracks that will be placed on it.
Anyway, once on the vehicle they look quite good and convincing and in any case far superior from what Hasegawa provides.

I do want to give praise to Parts PE sheet from what I've seen till now.
The drivers station.

The flak platform.

More soon P.A.

You're at it again so soon, Alexander! This will be interesting to watch as I vividly remember Beyond's build. The PE looks superb.

Cheers,

@PanzerAlexander – Alexander,

Have you brought this project back out from the hall of shame? Good to see you’ve been busy building away on this kit again. The PE looks great but somewhat complex. Did the Part PE set include the well-detailed gauges or did you paint them yourself? The resin tracks do look better than the kits supplied items.

I do remember ‘Beyond’s’ build, but I haven’t seen him posting anything here in the forums in a long time? Anyhow, keep us posted on your build.

Jan, Daniel, AJ, Eddy thanks for commenting.

Building this kit was something I wanted to do for a long time. I had collected all the extra stuff but to be honest I got discouraged by the poor quality of the plastic kit. It is a very old mould with thick parts etc.
With so many new high quality kits going around it's really no need to invest effort and time in this kit unless you have a good reason. Besides I think that Revell has already announnced a new Sdkfz 7 in mid summer. As Murphy's law in scale modeling the kit will hit the market the day after I finish my build .

Part's PE included some film with the gauges digits all you have to do is install and make sure you dont paint them accidentally.

Hi

I have seen one of the test shots from the revell sd.kfz.7 some weeks ago. The buils was very clean. The kit has some fine details. Build by MACO Germany!
I think you should by this one and use it for your build.
That makes the work easy. And you save much time.
Hope we can see some pictures if it is finished!!! :-)

Cheers Daniel

Hello everybody,

After quite some time, I had some progress on this project. I have finished assembly and am ready to proceed to painting.

The model will be painted in separate peices, cab, engine hood, flak platform and flak gun, and be glued at the end with epoxy glue.

Parts PE worked really good, especially the side mesh looks good. I took quite a free aproach on the gun. Note the excellent barrel from Schatton Modelbau.

Yes it's 1/72 !

More before vacations (I hope) P.A.

Outstanding work, love the detail with the photo-etched stuff.

There's a Soft-Skin campaign? Is it in Braile Scale?

Thanks for the comments. There was a soft skin campaign but it's long over.

I found the time to proceed weith this project.
My reference is a well known photo which shows a sdkfz next to some ancient ruins in Athens.
I will be using a ruin model that I bought from a local tourist shop. The idea is to put some soldiers in resting positions and to name the dio '' Meanwhile in Greece - ASutumn 1941'' as a reference to the contrast between the troops that were rushing in Barbarrosa and the troops that were relaxing in Greece after Marita was over.

Vehicle is 90% ready I hope you enjoy.

Excellent and nice work. The detailing is superb. I have enjoyed a lot with your work although it would be imposible I make a model with all these PE parts. More complicate for me . how you made the metal parts in the lights?

Best regards. Pedro.

@PanzerAlexander – Alexander,

Looks really super, well worth the effort you’ve put into this one and I like your idea for the vignette. Nice paint job and weathering, my favorite part is the built up mud under the front fenders. Looking forward to seeing the crewmembers.

Eddy, Pedro thanks for taking the time to comment.

@Pedro,
Making the inside of the lights is a very simple method I have thought, I'll post some pictures as soon as I can.
