Thanks for the kind comments Gary, Matt,

The T-62 was meant to be a quick project out of the box thats why no build log, but I admit that I really enjoyed the build and its turned out quite well. I am going to paint the Tank as part of the Soviet Invasion of Afhganistan. Afhganistan seems to be the graveyard of the T-62 so it seems appropriate.

As for the Kingtiger(s) I am planning to build the Trumpter kit as accurately as possible. I will add lots of detail to the interior with the full knowledge that I will be spending at least 12 months on that alone. However even I have limits, even I will not spend months adding electrical wiring to the engine which will never be seen once installed, I am not that insane.

The wife is expecting our first child in May so with any luck she will be too busy and tired to nag.

Check out this site, dedicated to the trumpeter KT. It has ALL the info you will ever need.

http://www.network54.com/Forum/637977/

Also check out their shop as there are some good resin parts that correct some of the bigger errors in the kit and add some extra detail.

http://shop.afvmodeller.com/customer/home.php?cat=387

also if your interested heres my OOB build from last year, should give you a good idea of how it builds up.

Anyway, looking forward to the next instalment on the PzII

Hi All,

Thanks for the info Matt, you have provided some really useful reference points for my upcoming Kingtiger Projects !

I am pleased to announce that the Panzer 2 is finally completed. I will briefly run through the painting and weathering steps which were used as well as the camouflage scheme.

The first thing to note, for those of you who have been following this build, is that I have changed the decal scheme from 24th Panzer Division to the 11th Panzer Division in 1941. The paint scheme I have used is a fictionalised winter scheme which I imagine the 11th Panzer Division would have used in the Winter of 1941/2 during the fighting in the Moscow area.

The first few pictures look at the prepping of the tank for spraying and the application of Tamiya German Grey to the model.

Next was the application of the whitewash. For this I used thinned white enamel paint.

I then created a mixture of 30 white enamel to 70 thinner and used it to whitewash the rest of the tank and then spent a lot of time weathering it and working on the details. Here are the final images of the panzer II Ausf B.

I really hope you all like it.

This is what I am planning to do next. A build log of a Lionroar BMW R75 motorcycle with sidecar with a Sovereign 2000 resin upgrade set. This will be an interim project while I gather the necessary resources and references for the Kingtiger Projects.

In addition I will be conducting a side by side comparison of both the Tamiya and the Trumpeter Kingtiger offerings along with a 1/35 Dragon Kingtiger just to spice things up!!!

I don't think this has been done before and should be quite amusing. I believe I will be starting the Kingtiger production probably in or around March.

Thank you for looking,

Steven

I find the more positive comments I leave on other people's builds, the more comments I get on mine. I recently renovated a M163 and only have two comments.

Hi Steven. I really like the "fictionalised winter scheme" ... especially how it is weathered. It simply looks great, and probably very plausable as well. Gives a whole different appeal to this model, instead of another panzer grey finish.

That has always been a problem here ... so many posts, that folk dont take the time to comment, and/or haven´t the time to comment. On the other hand you have > 10000 views which proves your build is popular and commanded an audience throughout the build.
Theres not many that can comment and question your interior work which was top notch and you had done your homework here. You pretty much delivered the whole painting/weathering progress in one step, which Im sure you would have had a lot more comments on, if delivered in the same detail as the interior.
You shouldn´t gauge your build quality/interest on comments alone and sometimes views dont even give a fair account of what the thread contains, but in this case view count has proven the above quote wrong, IMO.

I'll admit that I have been quietly following this thread since it started, drooling over the fine PE work that you have done in the interior. Very nice job on this build! Keep up the good work mate!

Steve, I have also been quietly following along and am impressed! The kit's suspension is very hard and you have made it seem easy.
Hope to see the ride being blogged here soon.

Dear All,

Thanks for the kind comments

Painting is by far the weakest part of my building process, I have no problem soldering, scratch building but when it comes to painting I tend to worry. I was quite convinced that the Panzer 2 would not look right and I did not follow any logical pattern when painting her, so it would not have helped anyone if I had documented my progress.

Its not a matter of getting a better Airbrush, I have a top of the range Iwata but its more of a confidence thing. As I only build 2/3 models a year because of the level of detail I seem to like adding that will not change anytime soon. In the past 3 years I have built 4 models (excluding the T-62) so while my superdetailing level might me intermediate my pinting is, or seems to be, alot more basic.

Anyway I am glad that you enjoyed the thread, and the Kingtigers project will be starting very soon.

That was another great build.
To improve your painting skills try to get your hands on some Italeri or Tamyia cheap kits (Italeri's Blitz truck, Italeri's Puma , Tamyia PanzerIV D ), they are quick builds, no AM stuff. And try different paint schemes & weathering process.
It might help.

Looking forward to see your next project !!
