I'm building a model of Morris CDSW 30CWT 6 x 4 tractor with Bofors 40 mm gun towed. The only painting I know is the desert one from Africa. Does anyone know if there is an Europe painting for 1944?

Hi Robert,

Some of these woud have seen service with the BEF in France. After WW1 and up until 1938 Deep Bronze Green No 24 was the standard colour for most vehicles, although other schemes were tried.

ACI 96 of 2nd February 1939 announced a completely new colour Khaki Green No 3 which was ot be used to repalce all previous Servcie Paint , which probably means replacing DBG No 24. This new colour was applied to all vehicles including artillery equipment but with the exception of staff cars.

The new colour Khaki Green No 3 was also know as Middle Bronze Green just to confuse things a little .

Dick Taylor's Warpaint Vol 1 and 2 are a great source of data.

Hi Robert,

Depends on who the vehicle belonged to:

Look here for Part 23 Vol 1 and Vol 2 BEF in France:

http://www.armouredacorn.com/Reference/CVM/Not3.htm

If it belonged to 1st Armd Div look here

http://www.armouredacorn.com/Reference/BAM/1st%20Armd%20Div%20-%20complete.pdf

You can see the order of battle here

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Expeditionary_Force_order_of_battle_(1940)

I would think these would be RE revovery vehicles, don't know if the RASC had them too.

Have a look on PATHE News and you may see some actualy pics if you get lucky.

Here's a link to the Pathe Listings

http://users.eastlink.ca/~markcooper/other/Pathe.htm

and some BEF Clips that might be of use:

Don't know about the markling on the Bofors though.

For Royal Artillery look here:
