Hi All,
I'm currently reading Highway War by Major Folsom, USMC, he's a CC of a LAV Company during OIF1, the initial stages.
So no big surprise, a LAV made it to the 'to do' list, it has to be the one with the Bushmaster turret, which kit is best for that? The Piranha? To be honest I never looked at a LAV kit so it's all rather new to me.
And I was wondering out of general interest, when did the USMC drop the MOPP gear?
Cheers Rick

Cheers Rick

Trumpeter LAV-25 or LAV-25 SLEP. The '25 'implies 25mm turret as opposed to the other versions. Lots of aftermarket for it too (tires, pe etc) depending on how far you want to take it!

I am assuming the USMC took off the JSLIST Chemical suits about the same time as we did in the US Army; around 7 APR 03, once we had taken Baghdad.

Thanks guys! Didn't know that, and also didn't know a SLEP version was good for OIF1, going on the hunt for it!

The SLEP upgrades were just starting to be introduced around then. There is the armored sight on the left side of the turret as well as the Platt scissors mount for the GPMG. The SLEP kit has the scissors mount at least, I don't think the sight was changed in the kit unfortunately. Older 'thinner' tires were still in use as well as the original exhaust. Usually lots of stowage too. Having said that I suppose the LAV-25 basic kit would be best, there are a few sources for the Platt mount.

Hi Jim,
Very nice pics, thanks!
I do have both versions on the way but for this version I'll be using a basic one with the narrow tires, for stowage the Legend set is on it's way.
I also have the wider Michelin's coming, the LAV series are so versatile, I'll be buiding more, all I need is time....
Now some Echelon decals and I'm good to go, and then there's the Recovery version, also present from the start and lots of dio potential, I wish I could order building time somewhere!
Cheers Rick
