To remove paint from the bottle, when mixing, I have used eye-droppers, pipettes and a dosing syringe. All of these methods have drawbacks. So, I set myself to ask the question: how do you remove paint from its bottle?

Either pour it from the bottle and wipe away with a paper towel (quickly) or use the suction from a drinking straw. Pretty much the same as a pipette but they are cheaper and dont need to be cleaned. For thinners i use a glass eyedropper.

I've had too many mishaps pouring from the bottle and I'm a "waste not, want not" nazi. The glass pippete broke on me. I'm using a precision gluing pippete for thinners. And, the dosing syringe is almost too big for the bottle. I have tried using some of the mixing straws, but drip paint all over between the bottles.

I stir the paint with a metal Tamiya paint stirring tool. Then I put one end of the stirring tool into the airbrush/mixing jar. Next I carefully pour the paint from the paint jar down the side of the stirring stick. The paint flows neatly down the stick into the airbrush/mixing jar. No drips, no mess. I do wipe the rim of the paint jar immediately to ensure that no paint hits the workbench top.

I'll have to try that with some swizel sticks. I've considered manufacturing a spout for Tamiya and MM paints.

You can go to online medical supply store and get allergy syringes. these work good! I use them alot and the needle can be used for many other things... Such as tubing and gun barrels for some of the AC guns.

Seconded.
Also, get some of the largest needles available (color coded pink). Those are good for drawing out paint from the bottles without having to insert the whole syringe itself. They work great for the majority of paints around, though some, Vallejo model colour for example, can be too thick out of the bottle.
Just remember to dull down the sharp tips by sanding or filing prior to use.

I'm hooked on Tamiya and MM, when it comes to paint. I'll look around for some syringes. I believe that I can actually get some from my local pharmacy.

For small doses of paint and thinners, I use a straight tip eye dropper. For a larger dose I use a bent tip eye dropper, which seems to draw up about 50% more paint per application. Past this point I use cheap but free infant dosing syringes that our pharmacy hands out for the asking.

How large are the dosing syringes? I have one that has about a 3mm tip and 3/4" cylinder.

Humbrol Tinlets

Give it a damn good stir, tip it all into a mixing jar.
Fill the empty tin with thinners, give it a good shake.
Tip the thinners into the mixing jar, giving a rough 50/50 mix.
Half fill the empty tin with Humbrol satin varnish and tip that into the mixing jar.
Give the mixing jar a damn good stir, job done.

Fast n easy

Matt perhaps you should reread the question about not wasting any paint. I do like to brush paint some things.

I used to search for the perfect device too...then i said to hell with it and just pour it from the bottle. A few wasted drops worth really dont matter in the grand scheme of things.

I'm just anal retentive about waste and builds. See, when I run out of supplies, my nearest hobby store is seven miles away. This may seem a short distance to drive, but I only have a bike and the temperatures here are in the 90s or 80s. 80s when it is raining.
