I am having a very hard time painting fine, thin lines with my Paasche VL and Testors Acryl paint. I tried just about everything I know and I can't get seem to get lines thinner than a quarter of an inch. I am shooting the paint straight out of the bottom, which works out fine for paint base coats through the single action AB.
Help...
Thanks
Shaun

In general, it's been my experience that acrylics and airbrushes are a touchy mix. What I'd do first is thin your paint. Then adjust your air pressure. Try pulling back on the trigger as little as possible. I assume you're already using the number 1 needle and nozle. Good luck.

Keenan,
I have the same AB. here is what I do to get the lines smaller. When You are using the number one needle use the number 3 nozzle. The blast of air coming out of the number one nozzle is way to much even at 5 PSI. You want to move the AB as fast as you can to avoid paint splatters. You shaould have received a side cup with your AB if so use it instead of the gravity feed bottle. the paint to thinner ratio, what I use is this for every drop of paint use 2 drops of thinner. I use a eye dropper for the paint and thinner.

One thing I can suggest, as a fellow Paashce owner and user of Testor's acrylics, is to thin extensively with alcohol. The alcohol dries almost the moment it leaves the nozzle, so runs/splatter/centipedes are rare. The alcohol will increase the likelihood of paint drying in the nozzle and tip, so you may have to clean it a little more frequently. Usually, if you just shoot some Windex, everything will let go.
Also, make sure the tip and needle are in good shape and very clean. Even a slight kink in the needle, bend in the lip of the tip, or a speck of inoppurtunely placed dried paint can gum up the works. I always keep a couple of spares around and change them if I have any doubts about the integrity of my current needle and/or tip.
I know that most people say to dramatically lower the air pressure when trying to AB fine lines, but I've never been able to get a good atomization of the paint at
