Hi Forum,
Just wanted to showcase my USMC 60' that is about ready to paint.
The rubber tracks are just clipped on and will be replaced with the AFV club set. Stowage is a mix of Legend M60 and Abrams sets, but not done with the stow just yet.
I'm looking to do the NATO tri color finish on this one.
Thanks for looking.
Ryan

oops, forgot this shot...
I used the kit mesh for the rear basket, it came out OK. I would recomend going with PE if you are not using stowage. The fit of the side mesh to the floor mesh is uneven at best. I trimmed it off at the lower rail, however in reality the mesh forms a welded transtion to the lower mesh floor. Since I am using stowage enough of it will be hidden, yet allow some of it to peak through.
The sheet styrene strips between the packs will hold the spare water/ fuel can mounts.

Hi Rick,
Yes it is the Tamiya kit. I have added Academy rear mud guards as well as a Academy drivers hatch. Not shown in the pics, but the Tam drivers hatch fits terrible!
The only PE I used (so far) was new tailight lenses from the Voyager set.
It wiil really be fun to weather, I have done it several times already in my mind!

Hi Ryan,
That is going to look very well. I build this one not a long time ago as well. This is a picture of how it is looking right now. Hopefully you get some ideas from it. It was a lovely build. Although I replaced the grabhandles on the backside of the tank.
The grabhandles I meant.
The result so far. There are some small things I still have to do.
I will follow this build
Greetz,
Hilbert

Nice work, its great to see that others appreciate this version of the M60 series. I'm also currently working on a USMC M60a1 except I'm using the Gunze Sanyo kit (an actuallality the old ESCI M60a1 with the extra armor and few other things provided by Gunze). I'm replacing the road wheels out of necessity (the ESCI kit has the wrong kind) and adding new tracks.

Hey Hilbert great 60, very realistic! The grab handles are tops and it looks like you used some Legends stuff?
Matt O, I have seen that Gunze 60 at some vendor tables in the past, never bought it though. I have another Esci 60 going on now too....engineless with a dozer unit! I used the Academy ERA blocks, but I think I'm going to rip those off in favor of the Tamiya blocks. see below.
And thanks Sven for the compliment.

Some inspiring pics here, I have the Tamiya M60A1 in USMC version underway.
Ryan, those tracks look not to bad, are the AFV offerings such a improvement?
Nice builds here! Learning all the time.....
Cheers Rick

Yes, go with the AFV Club ones. They are awesome. The Tamiya, and Academy's copies, are horrible with the center guide in the wrong place and poor definition.

Yes Gino speaks the truth, the AFV club units are the way to go.
Although for a casual build the kit tracks don't look that bad from a reasonable viewing distance.

Rick,
Gino may shoot me down, but given care the kit barrel is just fine.
If you dry fit the parts, clean up is easy.
The metal barrel on the Esci turreted dozer unit above is nice, but the bellows at the base of the gun are featureless. The Tamiya kit barrel has nice fabric detail molded in.

Well...... We always need a excuse to get those aftermarket goodies, don't we?
The AFV version isn't that expensive, and there's a lot visible off these tracks on the M60, I'll guess you end up with the familiar 'I should have done that' feeling.
So better save then sorry.
Thanks again! Rick

Good looking M60A1's. If it's not too late, you might want to consider reducing the 'lip' around the barrel lock/clamp. It's nowhere near as pronounced as all the kits show it, should be more or less a smooth weld. Here's a pic I took of the Bovington M60A1:
I just got the DEF detail set not too long ago and am itching to try them out...soon.

The AFV Club tracks are just fine to work with. Although you have to remove some push marks on the inside of the track, they are very easy to assemble. I used for my M60 a Modelpoint barrel. It is the A3 version, but I couldn't find any visual differences. So I'm happy with it.
@ Ryan, I used only Legend stuff. Al the gear and the dozer is from Legend. It's a nice brand which makes (allmost!) most of the time very good resin products.
Also, I would like to give the advice to paint all the gear seperatly. I did not and it was hard to paint without touching some other stuff.
The grab handles is one of the things I decided to replace. Because I think it will bring your model to another level of detailling. It is not hard to make and the final result is much better. Hopefully you will do the same!
Regards,
Hilbert

Nope, I agree with you. I usually use the plastic kit barrel. I will usually only use a metal barrel if the kit includes it or I get it in a trade deal.

AFV Club tracks are the best investment for a build like this.

Hi Jim,
Yes its a bit late for that fix, but I do appreciate the shot. Thanks for posting. The DEF stuff looks awesome.
Hi Hilbert,
I agree completly with your suggestion on the grab handles, but if you have been to my web site you can understand why I wanted to take a break from too much detailing on this one! I have a Legend Puma AND Achzarit in progress at the same time! Those two fill my apetite for super detailing at the moment!
Hi Gino,
Glad your with me on the kit barrels. In most mordern kits I find the plastic barrels to be quite acceptable! Again with carefull assembly the units can be built and sanded and still remain round.
Hi Wayne,
Nice 60' in sand camo, I can't wait to try out the NATO tri color on this one! I already have the AFV club tracks, they are a superb upgrade.
