Hi. The white wash was mearly a chalky substance that was temporary at best and wore off as the winter weather continued, till by spring there was hardly any of it left on the vehicle. So it was 'painted' on any color the vehicle happened to be painted in. And put on by any number of methods, from spray to a brush, rag, or mop

Personally speaking, the rougher it was put on, the better it looks. Usually the numbers were left uncovered, but not always. I don't think there was too much of it used in the last winter of the war because of supply difficulties. There should be many photos that show this quite well.

Take care, sgirty

What are you using as a reference for the vehicle? Or are you only looking at the instructions in the kit?

Depending on the vehicle, you could also do a whitewash over the gray color too.

the winter white wsah camo was used over any colour the vehicle was in. usually rough painted with mops and stuff like this that crew happened to have or find.In bigger formations of armor that may have organized engineering departments have used air guns and stuff like that. But till now all pictures i ve seen show very hack job , due to absence of materials and tools
