You have road wheels right, a lot of them. And you staring at them thinking, "In the name of God why?"
Fast tip I just picked up from FSM.
1. Paint your roadwheels the base color (Dunkelgelb for Example),
2. Then take a black permanant marker and color the rubber part.
3. Then spray with clear flat.
Voila, your done! Then you can sit back and stare in amazement at the work that you have done, and think to yourself "Where would I be w/o Chip's Tips?"

The only other thing I do is brush paint with 'scale black'. It gives a much truer used rubber look. And because of the marker, I do not have to get so close to the rim as to possibly cause a problem. It is a very good tip.

I have been using the marker for some time. At first I was worried about all the glossy lines made, but now it doesnt bother me.
I spray all the wheels black first, then spray the hubs with whatever colour needed and then i go back with the marker to clean up the overspray. This is all hidden when the tyres are weathered.

I agree with placing an overall base black on the vehicle then going back to touch up the road wheels. Have not tried the marker routine, but will.
