Hi all,
I have a few questions regarding The DML kingtigers firstly are they all the same basic parts or are some superior to others for example the old and new Abrams kits
I have built the porsche turreted example with and without zimmerit obviously the henschel one being basicly the same as the above mentioned pair its the older ones such as the ardennes with late track and perhaps earlier henschel
version.
any guidance would be very appreciated cheers cuny12.

I'm by no means a KT nerd but for my money they're all pretty decent kits. I've built the "Porsche" turret Premium kit to which I added AM Zimmerit, and I have the Zimmeritted "Henschel" machine (6303) waiting in the stash.

I had the "late pattern track" Ardennes kit in the stash also, but I traded it - not because it's a bad kit but simply because with so much other stuff I want to build in a single lifetime, I can't see myself building more than 3 KTs (I also have the Trumpeter 1/16 Henschel kit in the stash) in the relatively limited time I have available to devote to modelling.

Basically it boils down to personal preferences as to which bells & whistles you want, what type of track, whether you want the convenience of ready-made Zimm or prefer to add your own etc. etc. They're all sound kits.

Hi,
I believe any of the Dragon Kingtiger kits after kit 6208, this one:

..are basically the same parts/molds.

After 6208 the road wheels were "Newly tooled" on the next kits;
6232 (late production, Ardennes) and 6254 (Battle of the Bulge).

Depending on what you want? 6254 contains 'Magic Tracks',
whereas 6232 has the late pattern tracks but these are on sprues.. (lots of clean up ).

HTH,
Grant.

Vanhall,

Is 6208 still a decent kit? I have bought one from china for £11 for my next project. Just want to know if it worth building?

cheers

Like told before the 6208 is the same as 6254, 6232. In fact 6254 and 6232 are upgraded 6208. Beside tracks (which are on sprues and not MT) and wheels (they were new toolings for the 6254 and 6232), other than that the kit parts are exactly the same.

IMHO when the model is finished (read painted, weathered) you won't see any difference between tracks and wheels from the older and the newer set (6254 is the best comparison as the 6232 have different tracks - single link type).

You'll need to add Zimmerit to it if you want to be "accurate", but there's nothing fundamantally wrong with 6208 as a kit. You got a real bargain at that price.

I don't really see why.

Doesn't it depend which vehicle he would like to model???

Of course it does. But I was just pointing out that if he wants to model one of the OOB options with this kit and be "accurate" he'll need to add Zimm.

If he wants to alter a few features and make a later KT he won't necessarily have to add Zimm. If he wants to paint it sky-blue pink and do a "what if", he won't need to add Zimm either. Or he can go OOB and not bother with Zimm anyway and upset the purists .

It's no skin off my nose whatever road he goes down. He can do what he likes with it. It's his build.
