just wanted to hear your opinion on photo-etched zimmermitt vs. hand made.

Getting tired of my "flat" german tanks and would like to try Zimmermitt, but don't think I have the patience to do it by hand, so therefor I'm asking about this.

Personally, I love the cavalier resin zimmerit. Its kind of expensive, but it perfectly matches the vehicle and often comes with new zim-covered parts. I've done hand-made zimmerit using putty - with a little practice it can also turn out nice, but its a lot of hard work. You'll want to practice on a cheaper model or an older one you don't mind ruining. Having done both, I'd be more likely to go for the cavalier sheets if they're available for the vehicle. But try picking up a cheap kit, Academy's PzIV is a good choice, and try hand-made zimm, maybe you'll enjoy it.

The cavalier zimmerit looks incredible. It would take A LOT of practice to get the pattern as fine if doing it by hand. Plus, the cavalier sheets have damaged areas where it looks like the zimm has fallen off.

Hi,

Just one other idea - ITALERI have a kit with zimmerit pannels for their Panther but, you have to thinned them by sanding the back because they are too thick.

The kit is not expensive and you got a lot of other accessories.

I think Eduard's photoetched Zimmerit is excellent. It goes on perfectly. Cavalier also makes great zimmerit patterns. I personaly prefer to do my own zimmerit. At first I relied on prefabricated zimmerit, but I feel it takes away from adding your personal touch. After months of practicing and responses on various posts on this site, I feel I can save the $19.99 and create my own using Milliput or hot knife. :-)
