Just a Small Little Dio I made for my Seal I just finished (DML 1/35)
The Base is a Doll Stand Base Covered with a mix of 50/50 White glue and Water and then sand from the yard sprinkled onto the base. Then With a rolled up tissue dipped in the glue and water mixter I dabbed all over the base then added the Desert Bushes using Cut up Hemp Rope. The Figure was fun to do. Tried Desert Camo and some black washes on the gear and I Think It Turned out great
Eyes look kinda weird tho.Figure was Painted with Model Master Acrylics and Using Games Workshop Flesh ink Wash on the uniform and Games Workshop Gun Metal on the weapon (Light Drybrush) and a Black Wash on the Green Gear using MM Acrylic Flat Black with some thinner. then Drybrushed iwth a desert Color.
Also the Base was Drybrushed with Model Master Wood.
And Yes the eyes look pretty bad
Thanks for looking and Comments Always welcome!

geez, they let people with those eyes in the army ? Did the instructions say to paint the gun white? if not then I would try mixing a little mettalic blue(small amount) with some semi gloss black to get a nice blued-sheen :-)

The washes on the gear are very nice. The subtle weathering over the camo is nicely done.
A couple of things you may want to try are to add a dot of black to the barrel ends. Next time I'd try to drill out the barrels.
In layout land they (Shep Pane and others) talk about the visual triangle where three things are the visual focus or suport the main topic. You may try to add another clump of grass to the front of the dio to fill in the space and frame out the Seal.
After looking again - I have to say the technique you used for the sand is very nice. I"m going to have to try it.

Actually Airwarrior its not White its Dark Tan and Sand. ive seen pics of navy seals with weapons painted tan and sometimes other colors.
As for the eyes yes they suck in person its hard to notice tho. As for the Black ends I Cant believe I forgot to do that I used to do that with alot of my WH40k Figs. and As for more to the dio I could add patches of grass But I was wondering if they even had grass in the desert thanks for the comments. Ill add black to the end of the barrel soon.
Ok Added some grass, Fixed the Eyes, and Added black to the end of the barrel. The Pupils are a bit bigger on his eyes but he looks alot better

Former SEAL checking in here (Team 2 / Norfolk, VA '78&79)...
While I don't stay on top of things closely now, we always had flat finish drab green or blue/black on our weapons, including stock... we just sprayed everything one color. Perhaps now they do a tan version... I had a duckbill choke 12 guage automatic shotbgun that I painted charcoal gray from butt to barrel with irregular stripes of olive drab and forrest green. I was a specialist in Underwater Demolition, so I rarely pulled "dirt duty ", spending most of my time breathing bubbles in muddy water.... but others in our team did lots of recon and extraction.... most of them used a similar pattern on their weapons, even spray painting their uni's in the field once they had a better idea of a given assignment... we actually carried cans of spray paint in our bags just for that purpose.
As for the actual paint job on your model- nicely done, but I would suggest just a light misting of dullcoat or other "flat finish" to get rid of the minor sheen... perhaps it is just the lighting from your camera exposure, but it looks to have a bit of reflection. If nothing else, try a small can of ModelMasters Spray Can #1960.... works great, never yellows, and will kill all shine or reflection.
And the looney cross-eyed look reminds me EXACTLY of our Jump Camp Instructor during our time at Ft. Bennings, GA! We always guessed that his shute failed to open more than once....

Thanks for the Info KFMagee! Im Probally gonna paint a few stripes of brown onto the weapon based off a Militaryphotos.net pic of a seal. and as for Dull coat yeah its a good idea to spray it since it seems to have a bit of shine to it. Im Gonna add a Small Peice of Metal covered in sand to the base also to look like a covered cave.
the Metal is made from the stuff between cardboard looks like a metal roof. Id also like to try a water dio soon using the other two seals that came with the set coming out of water. Also I Got the Cardboard idea from a Warhammer 40k Site.

You did a god job on the camo pattern and web gear.
I'll defer to KFMCGEE on the weapon color, but it looks to light to me. The eyes really need to be reworked, either with pupils aligned or with slits and no pupils. Artistically, there's too much base for a single figure. For a base that large, you'd need a prone figure or for that figure a base no more than 2X2 inches and somehing for him to use for cover.

As for the base with to much space Im actually going to add another figure the M60 Gunner from the set if I ever get around to working on them. As for the Eyes are they to big or? They seem aligned to me looking off to the right scanning the area.
