hey folks, first post on this site after many many hours of lurking here (there really is some cool stuff on this site!)

anyway, i recently got into scale modelling after having painted warhammer models for a few years, my first model is a tamiya 1/35 sd kfz 251/1, i've nearly finished the model itself, just have to finish the crew and base. i'll take pictures tomorrow, it applies to the topic at hand.

alright, i need some help with painting/weathering my models, things i tried on this model was using a filter, washing, paint chips using a sponge, and im about to apply some pigments to everything. i've also used a pencil to create metal edges, which didn't quite work out because the graphite got EVERYWHERE! which you can imagine is quite annoying.

my next model will be a tiger I early version from academy models (the one with an interior! should be fun)
and i want to do that one properly, and with properly i mean i dont want to f*ck him up like my sd kfz 251/1 i've read up on the internet about the different techniques, but they are mostly just large slabs of text without any pictures, and since i dont know whether im doing it right or wrong, im stuck here.

so if anyone can provide me with some nice detailed guides to different weathering techniques, please do

greets,
sjefke

Hey, Sjevke, welcome to the site. You can type "weathering" in the search bar up above and get quite a few results. There have also been some features done on different techniques. If you look at the build blogs (Bill Plunk has done several excellent builds that come to mind) there are some that show step by step the different techniques used.

Mig Jimenez has done several DVD guides that show the various processes in a simple, easy to follow manner. I believe they are under AK interactive. There should be a link here at the site.

Hello Sjefke .. Welcome to Armorama matey .. I second what Russ says ,,theres a heap of help here and Mig's books and DVD's are brilliant .. also dont forget to keep looking at all the posts ..the guys wont have a problem showing you how they do things but one thing you need to keep in mind ..technique we all develop our own styles and techniques for things like weathering ,,you will develop your own style too and dont freck out if you just cant seem to manage to get your model to look like these other guys .as you know experience is the key and the more you do the better you get ..hell i still stuck at painting but i'll get there one day ,,hope its soon cause i;m 43

Welcome to Armorama Sjefke!
First of all, don't expect to master anything, much less every weathering technique, on your second model. I built 40 models out of the box, just assembly and paint, before I started weathering. I built 100 models OOB before I tried photo etch and indy tracks. You can't become Mig or Zaloga overnight, even if you have all their books and products.
Unless you can produce a superbly built (and painted) model, nothing you put on top of it will really matter.
Having said that, there are a bunch of Mig videos here: http://www.missing-lynx.com/rareworld.htm, check out all the Mig DVDs on the AK Interactive site http://www.ak-interactive-usa.com/index.html, also a Mig FAQ 2 book is ready to hit the shelves at AK. Also, I recommend all of the AK weathering products very highly. Dozens of weathering articles here:http://ak-interactive.blogspot.com/ You can also ask questions and get lessons from Mig and Iain at the AK Interactive Forum :http://akinteractive.foroactivo.com/
Also check out all the features and articles here at Armorama.
If you're still in question, post anything you want to ask here! We'll all be happy to help and share our methods.
Most of all, ENJOY building. Don't get bogged down in thinking you have to use every technique on every model. Go light, it's supposed to be fun.

sjefke I would recomend you check out youtube.com. There are some excellent weathering and detailing tutorials that helped me out. Now, I'm no master like the guys above me; but you get the audio-visual experience with youtube.
