Hello all I was looking for some color help with the KV-2 pictured here
I would assume that it would have been a dark Russian green that was sprayed Gray in the field after capture. I also have found this drawing of what appears to be the same tank
Would some of the green be showing through the gray
I am building this tank for the Under a different Flag Campaign so any suggestions would greatly help. Thanks in advance

Hey Sal,
My guess is that it was 4-BO-green. When it was ''erbeuted'' they sprayed large german crosses and a swastika on it for identification. On the photo the KV looked ''fresh'', so no panzer gray paint would be added. The captured tanks were send to the back often to be refitted and oversprayed (mostely in the Daimler factory and some unknown servicepoints at the baltic country's)
In 1943 a major factory in Kharkov was captured by the second ss division
"das reigh'' that was producing T-34. A lot of colorfull vehicles were ''made'' there. Currently i am making a T-34/76 from that factory that served in ''operation citadel'' in the ''under a differend flag'' campaign. Maybe you can do some inspiration there.
Regards and happy building,
Remco

I wouldn't rely on the artists rendition at all. The swastika is not a vehicle marking so this tank hasn't been painted Dunkelgrau yet. The swastika would have been covered over if it was. This KV II is still in 4BO.
This tank was captured intact, someone painted a hasty swastika on it as they passed through the lines to prevent it from being shot up, and the engineers that towed it or loaded it at the railhead had stencils and added more official markings.
I don't have a history of this vehicle, these are my deductions from research and experience.

I agree with other guys.Painting a huge svastika on a tank already painted in panzer gray with German insignas, didn't make sense, unless it was actually still painted in 4bo green
cheers

Don't forget an equally large balkenkreuze on the back of the turret as I would assume all four sides would be covered.

Yes and two on the front 1 under the barrel and 1 on the front of the hull.
Would the inside of the hatches be green as well

It looks very nice Sal, congrats.
Track links and figure look very convincing. Paint job and assembly are really flawless.
It seems to me just a a little bit to clean. If i were you I'd weather more with some wash. Just my opinion anyway
(...why are you add two german insignas on the rear?)
Cheers thanks for sharing

Thanks Mauro, I didn't want to over to the weathering too much as I guess it could use another wash

and some place else that I cant remember where I saw 1 with the 2 crosses on the rear, so I figured why not

Will you do perhaps a winter white wash?
Second cross seamed a little strange to me, but if you have photographic evidences, everything it's right
Cheers and congrats again
