Hi all,

I’m just about to paint the uniforms of my Htlerjugend stug crew but I am a little confused on the colour of the uniforms I have done some research and found Htlerjugend crews with a mix of uniforms eg, straight black or grey or even camo or a mix of everything, my question is what would be more correct for a crew in mid-late 1944?

Cheers Dan

I'm no expert but from what I've seen in photos Hitlerjugend are notable for the mix and match of camo uniforms including Italian Camo items and U Boat leathers.

OK,kind of long winded here but here goes.
HJ was formed by a cadre from LSSAH in 1943 and various officers, nco's and specialists were transferred into the new div.either singly or as a unit. So,as these guys had been in LSSAH a while they already had a chance to be issued all of the uniform items that LSSAH had gotten. You then had the new recruits that bulked out the division and they were issued uniform items from 1943 on as well. What this amounts to is there was no standard uniform for the combat units and you are better off picking a certain vehicle from a pic and going with what that crew was wearing, because almost anything goes. So you have the reed green, mouse greay or black assault gun jackets or the cammo jackets in pea pattern or italian pattern or the u-boat leathers to pick from, plus non issue items that were privately made. Or the various denim work clothes or the coveralls. Basically anything that you want bro. If you check out my thread on the normandy sad sack tank crew the pic in there shows about 5 different uniforms worn by the same crew and this was the premier SS unit!
