After putting on half of the armor mount points on a LVTP7A1, I picked up Concord Spec Ops #26 and realize that AAVPs without armor mounted and suspension upgrade are pretty rare. I'm contemplating scratchbuilding the armor from Evergreen L pieces. Does anybody have dimensions of the armor?

Thanks,
Paul

Hi
Maybe you could use the EAAK armour parts from the MiniHobby kit as template ? BTW I've got at least 1 picture showing 2 non-upgraded AAV7s without EAAK during OIF...

Just my 2 cents

I already raided a Trumpeter kit for the upgraded weapons station and bow place but it didn't have the EAAK. I guess it would be a shame to cover up the mounting points I've put on already. Are the AAVP in camo or sand? The Spec Ops #26 had one in sand but it had not stowage at all on it?

Thanks,
Paul

Rumor has it that Blast is going to be releasing a AAV-7A1 RMS update with the EAAK armor in the near future.

Paul,
I have seen several pics of AAVP's without the EAAK or the upgraded suspension. I am at work now, when I get home I'll try to find them and either post, or e-mail to you.

Paul, the picture I am talking about (from RAID special issue) shows a convoy of several AAVs : one of the 2 mentionned amtracs is in sand the other one is in Nato camo. Neither of them has stowage and the latter has no EAAK mounting points...
PS : you've done a very good job !

AEF designs has also released an EAAK kit, going to try to snag it as it is supposedly better than the stuff with the Chinese kits, it also includes brass rail and a bending template for the stowage area.
Looks like it'll be time to start this project over. (and hopefullt the tammy OIF equipment will be available soon to fill it up)

Howdy Paul,

Looking good. I especially like your 'kit-bashing' efforts! For what it's worth, I've already built a Dutch variant of the M113 with the almost the very same armour. I used Evergreen 'L' angle Item #294 1/8" (.125) for mine. I just simply studied reference photos and took out my 1/35th scale ruler and did a little math. Worked out great (except for the mounting screws/rivets), just need better glasses! :-)

Tread.
