I am building the Dragon Sturmtiger. It has sat on the shelf for awhile and when I was paging through the recent FSM it called to mind that superb book (Scale Armor) and their description of the Sturmtiger. Now, the challenge is that apparently the Italeri and Tamiya kits have the roof ammunition bay avaiable to display in an open position. I am going to fool around with a few approaches, but would appreciate any comments from folks who built the kit.

Wow, i guess I missed the DML version of this kit. I didn't know they made any tiger variants.
I finished the Ita kit, it built up nicely and If I recall had a little more interior detail than the Tammy kit, especially in the driver area. It also comes with Zimmerit (how in scale it is is debateable, but it's easy and looks OK)
On the other hand the Tammy kit has better fit (I never finished that one). It does not come with Zimmereit.

I have just finished the Tam SturmTiger and had fun with it. It is an easy build, up to the standards expected from Tamiya. I would recommmend you replace the tracks with Fruil tracks, they do add a lot to the model in my opinion.
If you leave the roof hatch open, i think there is enough detail supplied in eh kit to flesh out the interior. I did buy the "Transmisson" set this model, but there is no point if you are gluing the superstructure in place. Nothing can be seen of it. With the shells in the racks as well, viewing of the interior is very limited.

Hey Porkchop. I have Italeri´s Bergetiger which I would like to build shortly and the review have been pretty similar to what you have said. It also has the zimmerit included. My question is .... the bergetiger also comes with link for link tracks. Does the sturmtiger come with them or the vinyl one piece?
