I picked up this detail set from my local shop. It was marked down from $32.95 to $15.95 and is designed to detail either the Italeri or Revell of Germany LVT-A1 Alligator. The kit comes with a large photo etch fret made by Custom Dioramics, Jordi Rubio 37mm barrel, resin upper hull and numerous resin fittings. I did a quick add up in my head and figured the 37mm barrel and PE was well worth the money.

Jeez! Man, am I so jealous! I was looking at the same kit in my local hobby shop and they were asking around the $30 mark. Too rich for my little wallet at the moment.
Great find Rob.

My IPMS chapter's group build is an "It Floats" theme. I have the Water Buffalo and Alligator and headed down to the store to get an Eduard set for one or the other. Looks like the Alligator will be the one that I build. There are many kits that I had that fit into this theme and are armor kits. Close runner is the new Tamiya Schwimmwagen with Part PE set that I happen to have on hand. The Schwimmwagen looks quicker, but is German WW2. I doubt I have the knowledge to identify which end gets the propeller.

Nice going, Sabot!
That is a fantastic price!! I debated picking up the set, but it would have cost me twice what I paid for the kit from Squadron, so I decided to do the detailing and corrections myself... This is kind of a bugaboo fer me --- paying much more for the aftermarket than the kit---hmmm. I'm also afraid of becoming a lazy (and poor) modeler, so I'm trying to make as much as I can on my own... But I would have definitely picked one up for THAT price! Same goes for their LVT (A) 4/5 set...gonna do my own mods to that one, too.
I'm hustling to get my 'gator done for a competition in two weeks --- my digital camera is on the fritz, but maybe I'll have some real pix to post around that time...
By the way, Trakz' LVT (A) 1/4 book is fantastic --- my only comlaint: it's printed a little on the dainty side and is getting pretty beat up on my work bench. A must buy!
Much Aloha,
Johnny B.

Sweet & jealous...
I'd have gotten two at that price. Looks like it might be worthwhile - hopefully one of you guys will build it and share it with us...

Major Rob,
Congrats on a good cheap find. It is well better than the MasterCon or X-mas sale discounts at VLS (best at 40%). Dave Harper at VLS has some great books regarding the details of the LVT serries. He is a BIG fan of htese water buffalo's. I myself have the cargo conversion, but must admit that this project is way back on my radar screen to even talk about it.
So all I can say is have fun with this in your local IPMS group. For me, I need to get back to my Northern Alliance BRDM - right after some update listening for this California Recall!
(Yes, I live in California and even near "...the belly of the beast - Sacramento!....")
