Wow - that's a lot of plastic at one time! I've been interested in the Pz.Kpfw. IV Ausf. E for a while now but too chicken to make it, so I'll be following this one. Nice set-up, by the way.

Thanks guys. I haven't really made much progress on the kits. I've been in the middle of a major re-work on one of the Verlinden pieces. I'll get some pics up soon.

Here's a pic of the re-work in progress with the good casting on the right.
To make me feel like I've made some progress I glued the fenders onto the E.
More to come.

Good luck with the triple including resin interiors. You're a braver man then I. I'll be following your build with much interest.
BTW, nice modeling setup.

Nice work!
My Dad and I used the Verlinden interiors in our Mk IV's. I had a lot of trouble with mine (Ausf F1). My Dad, not so much ( Ausf E 3 in 1 like yours). What are your drawings for?

Hi Mason, I’ve been watching yours and your father’s builds. In fact that’s part of what gave me the inspiration to start my kits aside from just getting off my lazy butt. LOL. What were the problems you faced with fitting the interior on the F1??? A problem was mentioned on either you build log or you fathers but it was not specific. The drawings I have on my desk are for new ammunition racks in the Verlinden part #3. I got one part that was a bad cast and I’m in the middle of repairing it. I’ll be uploading some more pictures tonight after work. If I have to scratch build something I tend to draw it out first to help me break it down into individual parts, calculate what sizes the different parts need to be, and be able to adjust parts to compensate for plastic thickness. I figured while I was repairing that center piece (verlinden part 3) I also modified it so I can fit the dragon parts for the filling ports (can’t remember the part numbers) for the fuel tanks. I would like to have the two fuel hatches open on the E. One problem I ran into on the E is that I have close to a ¼” gap between Part #3 and the back of the transmission and yet the interior in the C seems to line up nicely. You and You father have been doing a wonderful job on your builds, keep up the good work!

Wow! I like the scratch building with the Verlinden parts! It looks so much better!
Our biggest problem was the section blocks were too thick. I sanded forever and they still were too thick. Then my side (tread?) plates wouldn't fit on properly (Dad didn't have this happen to his). The turret floor wouldn't fit with the ammo basket and let the turret sit flush to the hull.

Thanks Mason! I agree, those verlinden parts do have very thick casting blocks on them. It took quite a bit of sanding in order to get the floor of the turret basket to fit in the verlinden part.
I've been trying to pay each kit equal attention so here's where I'm at on each kit...told you it was a triple build.

I was kinda intimidated by having to solder these parts but they came out pretty good. What works best for removing paste flux (the kind used for sweating copper pipe) from pe?? I've read that the acid in the flux will affect paint, I've tried MEK and a stiff bristle brush but there's still quite a bit of green discoloration. The green on the plastic is squadron putty.

Ahh... I remember the days my workbench was that clean. Well, the day. Your definitely going the right way with Dragon for your Pzr. IVs. I'll be watching.

I've been doing some work on the CMK interior set for the Wirbelwind and comparing the parts to the Verlinden sets the Verlinden sets could use a little peaking and tweaking. The gap on the E is very noticeable and while getting the two main interior blocks lined up on the C I managed to get a gap (to a much lesser degree) between verlinden parts 3 and 4. I measured these gaps as best I could and machined a couple spacers to mount behind the fan that sets behind the transmission. I'm hoping to make it look like an extension of the fan assembly. I really don't understand why these parts fit so poorly yet looking at HipKitty's and MasonTheKid's build logs they didn't run into this problem. Pretty much Part 3 is set so that the turret basket floor fits into the round depression and part 4 (transmission and seats) are set so that the brace on the floor that runs left to right lines up between the front bogies. On the E the gap measures out to 0.194" while on the C the gap is 0.082", quite a difference between the two. Any who I hope the interior looks the part.

I found replacement rollers for the E that are the correct size.

I found a couple extra seats from a Sd.Kfz.251 halftrack and I'm going to use them instead of the verlinden seats, they look allot better in my opinion.

Thanks.

I got the two main guns ready for paint, I scratch built the covers for the ammo boxes on the panzer C, and the interior for the E is just about ready for paint. I wasn't thinking and ended up gluing the interior of the E in place so painting the gas ports on the side of the hull is going to be fun. I want to use the Dragon part for the turret basket floor but I don't want to just copy the detail on the Verlinden parts, does anyone have a good pic of the turret basket floor??? Or able to point me in the right direction???
Thank you.

I don't have much, but these might help...

BTW, Mason pointed out a serious mistake that I made by checking yours out and by verifying with the line drawings....always learning!

Neal,
Those pics are exactly what I need!!! Thank you very much I really appreciate it!! What is the mistake you found on the kit??? I'm sorry to say but there are quite a few mistakes I read about on PMMS.
This is the review for the kit you and I are building.
http://www.perthmilitarymodelling.com/reviews/vehicles/dragon/dr6264.htm This one has a more detailed list for the Panzer IV E Vorpanzer.
http://www.perthmilitarymodelling.com/reviews/vehicles/dragon/dr6301.htm Alot of what's listed I'm not going to worry about, they're not that noticeable.
Thanks,

RJ, my mistake was, IMHO, worse than Dragon's and quite embarrassing to boot...I placed the manual turret gearing/wheel assembly at the bottom of the turret floor instead of to the left of the main gun assembly. Somewhere, I had seen a pic of an assembled Mk IV model with that assembly where I placed it. At that time, I didn't have the line drawing. After it was in place I moved on and didn't think anything of it until I saw your pics and referenced the line drawings. However, I am going to rectify my error

Great progress, building 3 Panzer 4's and super detailing them all is very impressive.
