The average lane width on US roads is 10-12 feet, depending on rurual road or interstate HWs. In 1/35 scale that equels between 3.45 inches (87mm) and 4.11 inches (104.5mm).

I'd say take your pick.

Originally (Roman) it was two horses ar.... err bottoms.

Some roads, particularly in Europe can be single lane and very narrow as little as 2 metres.

Standard modern practice is more like 3.4 to 3.9m for a lane as Gino said. So the whole road pavement would be up around 7 to 8 m.

What time period?

What place?

What road?

There is a difference between a major road in Wales and the same class of road in germany - About 2meters in width, 60cm in hight of the walls running parallel to the road and the tarmac/roadshoulder construction.

Oh and the fact that in germany most drivers don't undress, paint themselfs blue and lime up the hair. Judging by driving style the average Welshman still does

Hi Justin

Considering the different time periods, city/town sizes and location, you are pretty free to go with whatever size suits your model and base size. One of the things that shouldn´t be over-thought.

My rule of thumb has always been to put a vehicle you want in the dio down on were you want the first side of the road to start. If you drive you pretty much know how wide roads are,1 lane or for 2 double it and so on.

Maybe more of a guide would be to think about the sort of "ambiance" you want to achieve?

If you want the feel of a claustrophobic village street, make the road only barely able to fit the vehicle, if you want the wide open steppes then make it quite broad.

Russian streets are narrow, but I agree with Tom and make it the size of your vehicle.
