A few photos of my latest attempt at model building, a Ferret Mk.5 Swingfire.

This item is added for interest and is not intended as an in depth build log!

Opened the box and laid out the parts and sadly some items are missing along with a very badly cast MAIN part, the missile bins.

I have been sitting on this model since 2006 (along with many others) and it is currently not in production but Derek Hansen, the owner of Accurate Armour (Glasgow, Scotland) said he will have the parts redone and sent ASP.

The wheels are placed on for photo only.

Anyway I did get the suspension done and a dark Steel Grey base coat painted on the inside of the beast, along with a few parts glued in place.

A few air bubbles needed filling and as indicated in the instructions, bolt heads need to be removed from the upper hull to allow the upper portion to be mated with the surface.

Great subject, Keith!

I'm glad to finally get a good look after you told me about it. It's also awfully decent of Derek Hansen to make good on the mis-cast parts even after the kit's been OOP.

Cheers,

A quick CORRECTION.

Derek Hanson has informed me that the COMPLETE line of his Ferret Scout Cars are in FULL PRODUCTION at the present time.

So no need to wish you had one, go ahead and order yours today.

My apologies to Derek and his company for my mistake.

My newly cast swingfire bins arrived last week (typical great service from Derek Hanson and his company) so a little more added to the build.

The handbrake and steering wheel installed along with a couple of radio junction boxes.
My memory bank seems to tell me the cables were Black and when the Clansman radios were used most connectors were changed from Brass to a cheaper Grey alloy material. My choice of radios are the Clansman system.

Also seen in the photos are the Black charging panel, fuel filter and cable reel. For the purists among you, don't forget to add the retaining safety chain found on the escape hatch release handles each side of the inside hull. Our handles were painted Red.

The air bubbles on the engine firewall will not be visible when the rest of the interior items are fitted, any that I spot can be taken care of later, before the upper hull is affixed

I do note that in the parts supplied with the kit, two items of internal stowage contain the old 38 pattern water bottles, suffice to say these were long gone by the time this vehicle entered service! You could reshape them and add a larger bottle top or grind/cut them off and add a new retaining strap.

Warpage is minimal but it is present so a little tweaking is needed to locate/position the interior items. (The engine air cleaner box needs to be really close to the hull in order to place the radio tray in position). The battery boxes were painted Black as were the little (useless) rubber seat pads.

More as I progress, thanks for looking in, constructive comments always welcome!

Didn't forget about this one, just got sidetracked.

Primer coat of Vallejo's new deep UK Bronze Green primer.

Both the Austin Champ and this Ferret Mk.5 will now have to wait until I return from vacation in a couple of weeks.
