You would put in on before to provide a smooth surface for the decals to adhere to. You could put in on after if you want a protective coat before you do washes etc.
I personally use Testors Gloss Coat and Dull Coat.

Putting future on over a matt surface will give you a nice, even gloss coat upon which to place your decals, preventing silvering by not allowing air to be trapped between the decal and the flat paint.
Some, including myself, place another coat over the decal after it has had time to dry. This gives an added layer of protection to the decal, and gives more of a "painted on" look to it.
After this last coat of future has dried, hit it with a coat of flat coat, and you are done.
Cheers,
Mike

I use Future before and after. The first application provides a good surface that prevents silvering, the second seals the edges and makes the carrier film disappear. The final coat can be matt spray.

This may be an older topic, but I haven't been able to find the answer I am looking for yet. To airbrush future, do you thin it? and if so, with what do you thin?
Thanks again for all of the help.

Yeah, I thin mine with regular Windex to spray it and to brush it on. Works well.
BTW - Windex = window cleaner. The blue stuff.

this might also be off topic, but when you spray your model with future, do you spray the whole model or just the area of the decal? THANKS!

Typicaly, gloss the whole model, since tis layer MAY affect the shade/tone of the base color. Adding a layer after is completely personal preference. As to using an AB with Future, remember, thei is a floor "wax" designed to be self leveling when applied with a MOP. Think how much smoother an fine brush will lay this on. Be careful not to be too generous with your application, since it's als o designed to dry relatively fast.
