Hi folks.
Im after some knowledge,i am planning on building a M1114 of the HQ Platoon,224 Engineers,Iowa Army National Gaurd (Hawkeyes) in IRAQ . I will be building a small diorama using the Master Box US check point Iraq figures.
The question i have is would this unit use M16,s?? or was the M4 a standard weapon?
I have both sets of weapons to use as the MB set weapons are not very good at all.
Sorry if it sounds a dim question but i mainly build modern british stuff which i have knowledge of.

Thanks for any help.

What time frame is your scene taking place?

The reason I ask is because OIF 1 & 2 (possibly 3) was 'come as you are'. My Combat Engineer Battalion deployed with a mix of M16A2's and M-4 Carbine's. Later combat theater policy mandated US Soldiers have either M16A4's or M-4's only.

I would concur with Brent but add out to 2005 there was a mix of M4s, M16A2, M16A4, when I deployed with 3ID. When we started to do our relief in place with 101st Airborne and the 4 Infantry Division, the M16A2s and A4s became less seen, replaced by M4s and of all things, the standard M14s. The only weapon that I didn't see from the modern era (1960's to 2005) was the M16A1 and M1911A1...

I would use a combo of M16A2s and M4s. In that time frame, NG units were still getting M4s, so you could still see M16A2s as well. I deployed in '08 with 41st Fires BDE (active duty) out of Ft Hood with an M16A2 still. I swapped it for an M4 once I got in country though.

Hi Gino.
Thanks for the advice,i think i will go for a mixture of both weapons and do away with the SAW that comes with the check point figures and replace with an M4.

Its great to get info from guys that put boots on iraqi soil.

regards Neil.

Neil,
A mix is definately the way to go. I just returned from Afghanistan and my unit still deployed with a few M16's! Too include M203's mounted on M16A2.
