Just looking at box art for a Panzer IV G late with turret armour painted panzer grey. Would this be plausable or an error by the artist. Please no thoughts about directives when panzer grey was displaced by yellow etc. I spent 9 years in the army and know how directives take time to replace. Example after Queen Elizabeth was crowned Queen soldiers were still wearing badges with the Kings Crown on them 20 years post coronation.
Please, i just want to know if it is plausible and evidence either way - eg proof and 100% proof at that.
I just happen to like the whitewash over panzer grey.

Hey Rod,
This is a very blurry area. The order to paint vehicles yellow was given in the spring of 1942 to the factories. All vehicles in the field should also be painted yellow by fieldrepair units... The panzer 4 g is together with the f series a bit vague. A lot of (panzergrey) f1's have bin converted to f2's. (probebly the gun was yellow and the tank was grey, they painted the gun grey...) I think this also counted for some g types. The panzer 4 g is deliverd from the factories with yellow collor. Not grey. If you want a panzer 4 g with whitewash, dont add the extra armor and make it a "karkhov" vehicle. With this scene you are reltively save (if the panzer is a upgraded f2 ) my info came from the book "the battle for karkhov" from Jean restayn.
Just trying to help...

Should be Feb. 43. Except for ones going to North Africa, then they were painted brown at much earlier date. Many of those tanks slated for N. Africa were rerouted to Russia that is why you can see many brown (yellow) tanks there before the 1943 date. Now Schurzen wasn't applied to vehicles until after the paint change date so chances are there were no grey tanks with schurzen from the factory. Of course they could have retro fitted some to an older tank and painted to match. Anything is possible.
