I didn't see the annotation on the photo. It might be the angle, but the gun does look weird compared to the T-72 below it. Could it be the lack of thermal shroud?

Hmm, to speak about the gun without covering.
As -far as I know-, bigT possibly plans more than 3 different versions of the T-64, also one has the "naked" gun-barrel.
Take a look at http://ipmsphilippines.com/site/thread/trumpeter-1-35-t-64/120.
The three possible versions could be the T-64 mod 1961 with a 115 mm gun without thermal shroud and simplified commander’s cupola, a standard production T-64A with coincidence range finder and Gill armor, and a T-64B as evidenced by the presence of anti radiation cladding for the driver as separate add on pieces. Perhaps, with this kit as a basis, a T-64BV with reactive armor is just around the corner.
