Who thinks we should have a forum devoted to Axis armor? It seems to be popular enough to warrant its own forum. I have volunteered to host this forum, but the decision is up to Jim. Hopefully, you will reply positively to this poll.

I don't see why. I have seen different websites with a different forum for everything; modern, WWII Axis, WWII Allied, Cold War, Between the Wars, WWI, etc., etc., etc.... ad nauseum. It seemed very disjointed and confusing to me. Too many sub-forums seems to stifle the spirit of the forums; which is sharing information, ideas, and techniques.
I think the general Armor Forum covers it well.

I think an Axis forum is a great idea so long as it's part of a larger re-think of the site. There are 30 forums at the moment, so creating new ones likely would require the elimination / consolidation of others. Still, I think it's a good idea ... and we have one foot down this path already with the Russo-Soviet forum.

Bill we already have an Axis forum what Matt wants is an Axis armour forum. I have to agree with Gino as I don't want 50+ forums as others request a forum for this that and the other. I do not have any say in the matter though other than my opinion and I suggest that instead of starting several threads about specific forums that Matt contacts the site owner Jim S as he decides what does and does not happen.

How about a Canadian Main Battle Tank forum, but it should only cover from 1968 to present.

Hi Matt,
how would this differ from the existing Axis-WWII discussion group option that already exists in the Armor/AFV forum? I can see it effectively splitting off the German stuff into its own little enclave for the die-hard Axis fan, but the downside is that it'll effectively remove these topics from the attention of Allied fans and general modellers in the existing Armor/AFV forum who might otherwise benefit from the topics. (The Russian stuff is already mainly in its own little gulag where I rarely notice it...) I know I have a limited attention span when it comes to surfing mulitple forums or websites, and "out of sight" often becomes "out of mind" through general lethargy.
Now I'm not saying it shouldn't be done if it proves popular - just that I'd really need to see how it would integrate with the site and what benefit it would offer the bulk of users before we upset the current structure. Care to present us with a business case for the change?

I am happy with the current arrangement, but will post and participate in what ever format the forum decides to take

I understand what Matt is asking for. Axis subjects are among the most popular, so why NOT give them their own forum rather than force people to filter a general board just to get the content? Or, to be consistent, why don't we fold the Russo-Soviet forum back into the AFV/Armor forum as a discussion group?
And I agree about the number of forums ... there are too many now. Going by topic / post counts, some of the forums aren't very active and probably could be eliminated without causing much pain.
Guess my main point is directing the bulk of the site's content to a general forum (Armor/AFV) and then forcing people to constantly filter it seems less efficient than creating a small number of forums that hit the most popular subjects. Some filtering might be inevitable, but filtering just to get to Axis content (arguably the most popular of all) seems ... wrong.

Hi
I think its over populated with different forums as it is, so I just tend to look at the front page and go from there.
As regards having only what you are interested in showing, or not having to wade through stuff you have no interest in, isn't that what the "filters" facility at the forum head is for?
You tick the "Axis" box and provided the thread initiator has formatted their opening post correctly you'll see just that, post relating to Axis armour
Or am I missing something here? Is it how the forums are or just users not fully understanding or using the facilities available to meet their needs.

Could it be that what Matt is requesting is a specific SiG for Axis subjects?
We already have a similar website on Aeroscale which concentrates exclusively on the P-47....

My thought is that the current filter arrangement works well enough for me.

It would appear that the popular vote is to keep the forums how they are.

Matt our thoughts should not put you off sending a well presented reason to Jim S for said forum as he is the only person you need to convince and he will decide one way or the other.
