Hi guys,
I would like to know when the last production series started. It is the one with the air filter on top of the gasoline tank.
Looking at wartime photos I haven't seen any photo of a last production series with the black rubber pads on the side of the fuel tank. Does anyone know if it ever happened besides restored motorcycles?
Also I would like to know which series (initial or last production) made its way to the AfrikaKorps. In the case that both made its way which one was more common.
By chance does anyone has photos with it being used by AfikaKorps soldiers?
Does anyone know the famous color photo made from the front blowing sand to its side which series is? The photo I've been able to obtain is to small to make any detail discernible.
Is the engine of tamiya's or Italeri's model correct for an early series? Lion Roar/Great Wall's engine is correct for a final series.
Thanks in advance,
Angel

Thanks Frenchy for all your help.
Do you know where can I obtain more photos? Do you know if they were painted in one color or in two like tanks?
The valve covers of the cylinder heads seem to be of the late model (aluminum with ribs on it). Do you happen to know if this was done before the final model appeared or chances are that both model were used in North Africa and they decided to use the new covers to help cool down the engine?
Thanks in advance,
Angel

Hi Angel,
Here's a list of the production changes, dates & chassis numbers:
http://www.wehrmachtsgespann.de/bmwenglisch/bmwe1.htm#link
...and according to this page; the Afrika Korps bikes were delivered in one colour, RAL8000:
http://www.wehrmachtsgespann.de/zuendappenglisch/ze1.htm
There's a lots of info and photos to be found at the site, but you need to look through a few pages.. Here's the homepage:

I've finally found another picture on Flickr :
http://www.flickr.com/photos/46719559@N04/5001831801/in/set-72157624862462505/lightbox/
I must say other DAK pics I've seen show R12s (at least when the model identification is possible ) ..
