Hi.
I'm brand new to the site, I just "enlisted" this past week. to judge by what I've seen so far it's great!!! the reason for this note is I need help locating reference photos for an M-24 Chaffee in French service towards the end of the indochina war. Also is there any company that makes French figs from this period.

Try this site for the Chaffee, it has a few shots of them at Dien Bien Phu

I can't help with the figures, but would the uniforms differ greatly from the American style at this time?

Welcome aboard

I'll help with some URLs tomorrow.

As far as the French figures - they are going to be tough to find. Try www.GreatModels.com and do a search on French Figures.....

Hello Wolfsix !
As far as I know, most of the equipment issued in Indochina was of US origin. But it was not the case of everything... I'm sorry, but I don't know much about these operations...

Academy has a box of figures of french foreign legion.
Maybe ADV/Azimuth (french company making resin figures) has something... they are probably your best chance... but they may be hard to find.

Subject: The first Vietnam War

can anybody tell me when that was???!!! the Vietnamese were fighting the Japanese and, especially, the Chinese before the Europans and "our friends across the pond" ever sighted the shoreline!
I don't want to sound rude, but that set a thought going in my head! so if anybody knows, let me know! ( I suspect that it has been ever since Vietnam was declared Vietnam, but when was that?)
Anyway as i said

Martin

Sorry if I used the wrong title for this post. Its just in the states when one refers to the "Vietnam war" most people assume they are talking about the US conflict. I was just looking for a way to separate the French struggle from the the US.

It was a colonial war, similar in many repects to the wars of the 19th Century, french influence over its colonies was declining (especially in S.E. Asia) and the French were fighting insurgents in N.Africa, French ability to protect its colonies was waning, creating a dangerous power vacuum, hence the eventual US intervention. Dien Bien Phu was the end, perhaps it can be compared to Suez 1956 as the last throw of a colonial power...Jim
