Even for someone with limited interest the price was just too tempting!! Now all we need is some manufacturer to release some in 1/35...

IIRC Did`nt airfix release a kit of two of these in1/32 scale. The London Omnibus version comes up quite regularly on E-Bay but there is an "Old Bill" version complete with WWI markings out there.
I would be prepared to pay a lot for either,as both have been out of production for quite a while, with the old bill version going for ridiculous money as it`s collected for it`s box art as much as anything else.
Hope this helps

Some were also converted into mobile Pigeon lofts - for the many carrier pigeons which were used...

Based on this site:
http://www.cybermodeler.com/hobby/builds/airfix/build_airfix_571.shtml
some boxes contained the parts to build both versions, and it sounds like you don't really lose a lot starting with the civvie version - possibly outside of the figures. I gather the "Old Bill" aspect refers to the preserved example.
