Good to know; this kit has been on my "want list" for some time now, and I too would like to build it as a WWII example.

Additionally, the entire recoiling assembly is wrong for a 155mm gun (wrong diameters, wrong band lengths, wrong band spacing, wrong breech . . .). It is fine for a 8-inch howitzer, however. The metal part is missing the characteristic muzzle flare, but people have lived with worse.

That's slightly more difficult to correct...
Have lathe, will travel.
:)
What's a good set of drawings for the Long Tom, Kurt, if you know? Can't make the corections without the drawings.

Well, you'll need a mill because the bands are only partially circular.
These are the only ones I have, and they are incomplete because they don't have the breech or band details.

Well, then, I'm in luck! I have a mill at my disposal. Any references on where the breaks or dicontinuities are on the bands?

They are sort of Omega-shaped. It's probably best to look at photos; there are plenty on the net.
Make me a couple while you are at it.
