This is a yet to be released 1/48th scale kit from Masterpiece Models. The first glimpse of the kit and the build.

A lot of debate surrounds the use of horse drawn cartswagons in the use of war. Some were a bit more modern with pneumatic tires while many were the standard wooden spoke type. The debate is not about if they were used or not but the percentage of them in use at the time. Some estimates for the German army are in the 60% to 70% range, stemming from a lack of fuel to the horrid road conditions at various locations in Europe during winter and spring seasons. Russia was also a big user of cartswagons during this time as well. Just about all Axis and Allied forces used them to some extent during the war years.

This kit can be used to represent any period during the war from any Axis or Allied unit. Used primarily for transporting supplies or anything you might think of; maybe families moving their goods out of an area of looming attack. In any event this is a welcome addition to the 1/48th scale accessories that I for one am happy to see.

First shot of the kit contents:

Bob: nice addition to 48th scale. Do you know if there will be horses too?

Happy Modelling, -zon

Build progression;

The build is very simple and goes together extremely well. Here is a progression of the build process

next up paint and some very light weathering.

Base coat of Vellejo Panzer Aces "new wood" 311 was applied followed by washes down with both 502 oils in shadow brown and MIGs dark wash.

Then a dry brush of Vallejo Panzer Aces "old wood" and all metal surfaces were hit with a graphite pencil then flat coated with model master 1960 dull coat.

and the finished product:

A simple build that goes together like a dream. Ready for any diorama. Keep an eye out on Master Piece models website for more information shortly.

enjoy

Bob
