Whilst browsing the Masterclub stand at the IPMS Nationals this weekend I noticed some new Masterclub figures I had not seen before. What got me very excited is the fact they are sculpted by 'Menelay'. Recently Masterclub have been releasing some figures sculpted by somebody else and aren't quite as nice as Menelay's sculpts, the faces and poses look a bit off. Anyway these four are absolutely superb and work very well with the earlier modern Russian releases.

I took a few quick pictures which hopefully show off some of the details. One of the figures didn't have a box photo, but its basically a guy in winter gear holding an AK-74 across his lap.

These figures look really nice. I have some of their other Russian figures.. and I think they are great.. and their prices are great as well. But you're right, you have to be careful when you buy Masterclub figures because not all of them are of the same quality.

I hope wee see these new ones at online stores soon!

Thanks for the info Rob. These look absolutely great! I also have Masterculb tank riders you talk about (and did a review for this website quite some time ago) and I was looking forward to seeing the new figures in the same theme. The figures which finally did appear were sculpted by another guy and as you said, they were definitely not of Menelay's quality. I never expected these, so I'm really glad the theme continues with more Menelay's sculpts! I'll have to get to Hobby Easy and order them ASAP.

Thanks again mate, you made my day.

Yes, I believe Masterclub use two sculptors- Sergey Traviansky (Menelay) and a guy called Igor : http://www.planetfigure.com/forums/search.php?searchid=1643989

Igor's pieces aren't bad, but the poses sometimes seem a little bit odd and I'm not a massive fan of his faces. The Menelay pieces are just stunning. I hope he will continue the Russian theme and do some afv crew figures and perhaps some Russians in more action poses.

I thought these might appeal to you Mario! I was going to send you a message so you could perhaps throw a news report together. These figures are stunning and really compliment the other modern Russians as well as of course the two Battalion relaxed figures.

I'm just trying to think of a project now that I can involve these with.

I seen these on the Masterclub stand too. The blonde Russian girl said they were going to be doing a lot more WW2 stuff.

You are right about Igor. He is good, but Menelay's talent is among the best in 1/35 scale today. I'm glad these are out and the diorama I had in mind (4 Masterclub tank riders, Battalion two figures, Rest Models 4 figures, Tank Miniatures 3 figure tank crew... all on BTR-80) is growing even bigger in my mind. I like the "busy" look of Russian APCs with all the tank riders.

I would like to throw a news report, but I can't seem to find any info on these on the internet. No store has them in stock, MasterClub website is of no use as well...

Sounds nice! I have a similar idea as well, except BMP-2 instead of BTR-80. The quality of the offerings on the market seems to suggest we both might have our work cut out making a model decent enough to display these figures on. I have purchased just about every single available AM option for the DML BMP but can't see to find the time to start work on it. I'm also trying to get together a few figures to convert into captive Chechens-thinking of the using the Stalingrad wounded Russians.

I would say it sounds insane. A diorama with >10 figures and with my speed of painting... well, it is nice to daydream.

My first idea was also of using BMP-2, but I got a bit frustrated with all the talk of the "corrections" needed to get the DML kit look right. I somehow like the way BTR looks and I thought BTR might offer more space for all the figures I have planned. Of course, the DML BTR also needs number of corrections, resin wheels, etc. Too many ideas, too little time, eh?

Be sure to show us your progress once you start building!

Thanks Hisham! Might have to buy some more, those prices are insane! I paid 10 each for mine at the IPMS nationals, i guess thats the price of wanting to have them before anyone else, despite the fact they are now languishing in my cupboard

There's the "Winter Warriors" campaign. I think it ends before 2012. These figures would be perfect for that if one desires to rush before the deadline.

Hi Mario,

Thanks for the info, just another question, do u think that the kit with 2 men helping the tank crew be able to fit into the rest of the masterclub/tank figures?

Thanks

These 8 Masteclub tank riders, most of Battalion figures and all Evolution releases are sculpted by the same guy: Sergey Traviansky. Tank figures are very close in both quality and sculpting and I found them compatible in size with Sergey's figures. So I would say, go for it.

Hi Mario,

Thanks for the info. Where would you recommend to get Batalion models, rest models and masterclub online?

Thanks

I get my MesterClub figures from Hobby Easy... very good prices and shipping fees are wonderful. I think they had Rest and Battalion as well, but I'm not sure at the moment... BTW, Battalion is no longer active, so you might have a tough time locating their figures.

Hope it helps,
Mario

Battalion models figures are out of stock everywhere, as Mario pointed out the company ceases to exist (which is a crying shame as their figures are stunning) I have however found one source for them:

http://www.exter-company.com/en/hersteller/figuren/battalion/battalion.html

Prices aren't cheap but the figures are well worth it anyway.

I hope we see these figures re-released at some point. Id love to get my hands on the Spetsnaz figures

Yes, I agree! Considering how much a few resin figures weight! In the end I just went for it because I thought I might not get the chance to have these ever again.
