Hi all,

This is going to be a build log of my final 1:35 build as I am converting to smaller scales. Over the years I have never built a 1:35 Tiger so now would as good a time as any! The kits I will be using are as follows:

Academy Tiger Mid production with interior
Eduard Tiger mid exterior PE
Eduard Tiger mid interior PE
Eduard number masks
Eduard Early/Mid barrel
Friulmodel Tiger mid/late tracks ALT06
Verlinden disassembled 230 P45 Tiger engine
Tamiya German maintenace crew
Tamiya Tiger crew reloading
Some addition PE, metal cables etc from the spares box and plasticard/rod

There will also be a base with it so this list is likely to grow.

The intention is to depict a Tiger undergoing minor engine work and reloading after a field exercise. It will be based in Normandy before D day. The interior will only be depicted as through the hatches so I will only be detailing the driver/radio operator positions, the turret interior and engine/radiator bays. The Tiger will be a late december/early january build.

The only thing i'm undecided on is which tank/unit to base it on.

I will post up photos of all the kits once they all arrive and the build starts, hopefully within the next week. In the meantime, if anyone wants to contribute some references or info it would be much appreciated

Cheers
Matt

Well, I could tell you a lot about the accuracy of that kit, but it's not good news; do you want to hear it?
For example, a December/January Tiger would have a travel lock at the rear, which the kit doesn't.

Hi David,

Your input would be greatly appreciated. I know your one of the resident experts

The kit arrived today and I have just been through it. The travel lock is included in this kit so thats one less thing to worry about.

Thanks

Hi guys,

Well i'm still waiting for most of the additional kits to arrive so I haven't done much on this. I've just been working on the wheels so no photos yet. I have however been doing some research and I have found the tank I want to base my model on. Here it is, 131 of sPzAbt 101 in Normandy

From what I can make out it is a late Mid production but I am unable to find any other photos of this tank to verify the build features. Can anyone help me wiith any further details on this tank?

cheers
Matt

Matt;

That's the only known photo of "131" and we can't see the features in question.

But we do know that the tank was delivered to the unit new on 9 January, so our best guess is that changes instituted in January did not apply to it.

Therefore it gets the travel lock (as you can see), and complete removal of the mounts for the Feifel system, but still has the 15t jack, the shovel on the glacis plate, and the old uncut hull walls at the towing points.

Thanks for your feedback David

Shame this is the only photo that exists, I will have to go with best guess for the camo. You mentioned some accuracy problems with the kit in your earlier post. Could you let me know what the main problems are? I'm aware of the following:

Incorrect turret shape
Incorrect ammo stowage (should be 4 rounds wide)
Missing stowage bins under the turret basket/fighting compartment floor
Missing hull floor strengtheners
Incorrect gyroscope placement

I know the turret shape would be very difficult to fix but the other problems aren't an issue as they won't be seen. I will relocate the gyroscope though.

Many thanks again
Matt
