Hi,
Looking for some expert opinion for my 1/35 Tasca Panzer II Luchs build. I'd love to do a winter whitewash on it but seeing that there werent too many of these in the field, I'm not sure if the whitewash would be applicable. If the Luchs did see winter operations and could have been whitewashed, Which division would it have been serving with and what year? Any photos available? I've searched the net best I can but have not seen anything that jumps out at me.
Thank you in advance for any help you may have.

Hi Hal

I have several Concord books and in one or two of these it definitely shows panzer 11 luchs in a uniform whitewash, the books im referring to are the Armor at war series of books by Concord.

If you look at page 40 inside the 4.Panzer-Division on the Eastern Front (1) 1941-1943 edition it states , The reconnaissance battalions Luchs all received a uniform application of white winter camouflage paint over their summer coat or green and sand camouflage paint, leaving only their national cross exposed 1943/44, and on page 70 of the same book it shows two Luchs in white wash.

I know i have seen other pics of Luchs with a white wash scheme, these are in the second issue of the same series of books 4.Panzer-Division on the eastern front (2) 1944, there are several pics of Luchs in white wash, and it states that they were involved in the fighting in and around Kovel in 1944 and that they were one of two divisions that were fully equipped with Luchs, also try AXIS HISTORY great forum for finding info etc.

Hope this helps.

Thank you gentlemen for the great info.

Tom, That is exactly what I was looking to find. Now to see the pics, maybe pick up a tank number off one of them...

Hal;

Given as the Luchs is documented in 4th Panzer in whitewash, and that whitewash was very likely applied over the existing summer camo, it would be quite reasonable to do one in either a more-complete white coat (earlier in the season) or in a variably-worn or even very worn white coat for a spring tank. Seems that you have a lot of legitimate option and range here both with coat condition and any amount of mess and grunge on it!

Thanks again for the replies. I intend to represent the Luchs in a late winter, early spring worn white over the woodland camo. My ambition may be beyond my capabilities but I will give it one heck of a try!

Thanks again!

Hal,

One of those tank numbers is 215 in red solid numbers.
And, welcome to Armorama!
