You can you AT obstacles about anywhere you like.. They can be used to secure checkpoints and road blocks, or to form large obstructions to slow down the enemy.
The Germans used AT constructions along the Atlantic coast in WW2, but they also had a very impressive defensive line called "the Siegfried Line" along the French-German border. It consisted of concrete "Dragon's teeth', AT trenches and canals and al sorts of bunkers..And the Allies had serious trouble to breach this line....
Hope this helps a bit, or otherwise someone with more details can come to the resque ??

Skytrain, The antitank obstacles that were made out of the big welded together sections of steel were pretty much beach obstacles, as I understand it. However, both sides in WW2 used anti-tank obstacles inland, that is, anti tank trenches, dragons teeth, etc.
That said, I don't think that any kind of AT obstacles would be appropriate for your planned Carentan diorama. The Germans were doing the hasty defense thing, they did not have time to lay obstacles or dig trenches.
Hope this helps,
Shaun
