Hi,
Does anybody out there have a preference as to which type of solder & flux they use when working with PE?
I've recently bought the new Adam Wilder DVD "Dealing with Photo Etch" but cant quite make out what he says when mentioning the type of solder wire he uses.
I'd like to hear your thoughts on the subject.
Thanks guys.

Joe.

PS The DVD is brilliant! Get it - it's really helpful!

Joe,

I just got that DVD too and it is great. He said he uses lead solder with no flux core. I have emailed Adam and he seems very willing to answer questions. I have not tried soldering PE yet but have ordered my iron and some liquid flux from Micromarc. I already have a big roll of fine lead solder.
Bizarre

I have a solder wire and flux from dealextreme.com. Very cheap and realiable.

Btw, the wires with flux inside are less flexy to use. At least in my hands.

I am going to use Multicore Size 5 Tube Savbit Alloy Solder and here is a link to a PDF file on this solder which some may find of interest. PDF

I've been doing a little research into solder wire & it seems that good fine lead solder is quite hard to come by.
It appears that I can get 60/40 Lead/Tin mix with flux core quite easily so is this what I need? Or does it have to be pure lead?
And when we talk about "fine", what thickness diameter do we mean? 0.5mm, 0.7mm or 1mm?

Then, what about liquid flux? What type to I need here? Is there a good one ot there?

I really dont want to get the wrong materials as PE kits are quite expensive!

Thanks fellas.
Joe.
