Hi
Can anyone help me out with the Orbat of the 3-7 cav during the iraq invasion in 2003.
i know there were 3 troops (companys) named A,B and C. also there were 4 ptns in each troop. i need to know how many M1A1s and M3A2 bradleys were with each Tp. also how they were split into each ptn.
so a complete Troop orbat would be brilliant if possible.
i have dozens of photos that need sorting, anyone that has recieved my pics from 3ID will know what i need.
any sort of link to a site that shows this unit would be fantastic as well, got a few but some always slip the net.
also posted this on ML.
thanks again
Mark

Should have been organized as a Force XXI divisional cavalry squadron.
- Headquarters and Headquarters Troop
- Troop A (Ground)
- Troop B (Ground)
- Troop C (Ground)
- Troop D (Air)
- Troop E (Air Service)
- NBC Recon Detachment
The squadron had 27 M1A2 Abrams and 39 M3A2 Bradleys in total. Each ground troop had 2 scout platoons and 2 tank platoons, among other things. Each scout platoon had 6 M3A2s and each tank platoon had 4 M1A2s. There was another tank and another Bradley in the troop headquarters.

That's pretty much it above. 3ID Units did not get M1A2s until after OIF1 though. Also, 3/7 CAV drew PrePo stocks from Kuwait, which were also M1A1s. So substitute M1A1 for M1A2 and you have it.
As for task organizing (mixing of units), it changed constantly due to what was needed for the mission.

One small update: D & E Troops were Air Cavalry Troops with eight OH-58Ds Kiowa Warriors each while F Troop was the Aviation Support Troop. All Heavy Divisional Cav Squadrons all had the same organizations and structure, with some equipment differances, such as variants of tanks (A1's vice A2's or A2SEP's and Bradleys (M3A2ODS's vice A3's). The Div Cav was a nice combined arms unit - great esprit as everyone thought themselves to be "Cav" before their controlling Branch.

Thanks for that. I compared 2 sources and one had 2 air recon troops and no air service troop and the other only showed the breakdown for the 2 units. I supposed that an error had been made in the first source, but it seems it was not the one I had thought heh.

Good info guys, all I could find through Google was a heap of bollocks about the 3-7 Cav being devastated by a neutron bomb at Baghdad Airport ?????
