Dear Modelers,
Help! I have a section in my diorama with a railroad track. I've scratch made the track , rail connectors and ties, but need the rail ties. These are the metal plates that hold the track to the tie with spikes. I can't use a ready-to-go track section as mine has to have a straight part and a particular curve to fit. Need 1/35th scale. Appreciate any help. Thanks.

I have a set of railroad tracks made by RPM. The set includes4 identical sprues. Each single sprue consists of:
4 "wooden" ties
1 rail (5½" long)
8 rail ties (I think this is what you need) that the rails sit on to connect to the wooden tie
16 clips that hold the rails down to the rail ties
2 rail connectors that join two adjacent rails
This set basically creates two rail lengths, 11" long total. It is set #35902 and cost me about $6. I bought mine about 2 months ago.

Sounds like a nice kit... do you have a photo? I looked online, but didn't see any pictures.
For railroads and trolly cars, I simply make mine from Evergreen Plastic "Rail" strip and sections of wood. Looks pretty darn good if I say so myself!

I don't have a photo of it, but the set looks like the sprues that are added to one of those Russian armored cars to make it a rail car version. Included on each sprue is a railroad wheel and a small machine gun barrel. I don't know why I bought the set. I don't really need it.Sounds like a nice kit... do you have a photo? Have you tried some hobby shops that specialise in scale railways? They usually have stocks of seperate parts that can be used for this. Eventhough the scales might be a bit out, they must have something suitable!

Thanks for the replies. I have tried model railroad shops, catalogs, etc. The problem is the scale. Their #1 scale is close, but doesn't have the rail ties available as separate items. This is part of my dio that I have been working on and off for ten years and these darn pieces may be the death of me.
I may machine a cross section of the flatter rail ties in a disk and do the bit with heating sprue in a tube and exctruding the cross-sectional shape I need and then cutting them to width, but some of them, where the rail "wye's" have a reinforcing shape that has me stumped. When I can figure out how to put some photos of what I am talking about in the forum, I will.
