Hi, I'm after some suggestions for figures to use/convert in a personal build i'm going to try.
It's a scene of a group of us walking the Pennineway in the UK we spent the night in a mountain hut and i'd like to build it in 1/35 with there being a good choice of materials and figure to choose from.
I've not had much experience in fact a little warhammer in my youth and a diorama of a scene from the great escape where McQeen jumps the barbed wire fence which was in aprox 1/12 to go with the motorbike I bought my friend.
I'm not afraid to have a go and consider myself patient and capable but it would help if the figures were "nearly there so to speak.
Here's the scene i'm trying to build.
Thanks for any help if possible.
Darren.

This is an interesting subject, and if you go ahead with it I would love to see your progress!
The only set I know of (and that’s cuz I had it) is Dragon set 6063, it has a sitting figure in shorts drinking from a canteen.
Regards,

Cheers for that info fella, ill get on and have a look at it. This is going to be a long time coming i'm thinking. I've got a lot of reference pics of the hut inside and out off the net, so am thinking of making the roof removable and doing the inside as well..
The part that will drag it out though is painting and modelling the figures, its a big weak point for me through lack of experience and being way too fussy. Also just got into traditional English Archery and have started making my own arrows etc, takes up a hell of a lot of my spare time.
Thanks again though its a good start..

Hey Darren!
Maybe you could try to scrounge up some older Tamiya figure sets of British in North Africa. There are several seated figures or some that can be converted and they all wear shorts. Some that come to mind are the old Bren Carrier crew, the 8th Army infantry or the crew for the 25 pdr. I might even have some of them somewhere in my spares box if you're interested (have to check first though...) Of course they are not the best quality anymore...
Cheers!
Stefan

^ cheers for the idea Stefan, It may make sense for me to use different brands which would help with making the figures look different. ?
I have an old Tamiya set of desert figures but alas no shorts and no sitting, the quality compared to the modern Dragon figures is terrible though
I'm struggling to find the Dragon 6063 set localy after a quick search but i'll have a good look and call in my model shop over xmas and see if I cn locate it that way..
Cheers lads..

suggest looking into any "at rest" kits, or even the "wounded" kits, find all sort of bent arms and legs in those.
as for backpacks, no idea, maybe scratch them from using the bags that come with most tank kits???

MB has a lot of "At rest"/ "Injured" Figures. Also read up on sculpting. There will never be a miniature that exactly fits your needs. So don be afraid to get out the razor saw and the putty

Hi again,
If I may suggest this set from Legend (For the back packs):
http://store.spruebrothers.com/135-legend-modern-us-backpack-set-1115-p15999.aspx
Just colored in bright colors instead, might work.
Hope this helped,

Darren,
Welcome and good hunting.
If your after newer fig sets check out the MiniArt website.
They've released several figure sets 'at rest' and dressed in shorts which could lead to conversions.
As to painting the figs...practice. Get some cheap figs, search this site (and others) for figure painting tutorials and obtain some cheap figs to practice on.
But most of all...
Enjoy
Tom

You might not want to necessarily limit yourslef to 1/35. There's a lot available out there in 1/24 that can work well for you.
