Is this kit 72nd scale or another oddball from Hasegawa? Another question would be, are there any other decent 1/72 scale kits of this tank out there? Thanks for any replies.

RJ,

I believe the only armor Hasegawa ever produced was in 1/72 scale. I remember building this one and it was considerably larger than the 1/76 Matchbox one. IIRC the market in the old days was Hasegawa and Esci for 1/72, Matchbox, Airfix and Fujimi for 1/76.

To my knowledge there is only this one in 1/72. It's not too bad IIRC, but certainly no longer up to today's high standards...

Cheers!
Stefan

Thanks for the info. I wanted to do a small Diorama with a few Chaffees in it and keep everything in a constant 72nd scale. Looks like I may have to rework some parts of the Chaffee and cast duplicates.

It is pretty well to scale and apart from a 1:76 offering from Matchbox, Chaffee's in braille are pretty thin on the ground.

Unlike their Sherman, which is closer to 1:64

That Hasegawa Sherman kit isn't the best and the scale throws it all off. Speaking of Shermans, I have a few resin conversions about ready to release based on Dragon kits. Just might do some improving on the Chaffee from Hasegawa and release a set for that one, too.

The other option is the 1/76 version in complete resin from Milicast.
