I started building Tamiya's M1025 and didn't consider painting the chassis. Now all the parts are glued together and I can't paint some of the parts. I read somewhere if you put the kit in the freezer for 20-30 minutes then it can be gently pryed apart. Can this be done or am I going to break the parts?

If you used superglue AKA CA glue you can use Nail Polish remover to de bond the parts.

Used a combination of superglue and liquid cement. I think freezing the kit may only work for tube cement.

WARNING!
If you use the liquid variety of cement, this is a base of MEK (methyl ethyl ketone) THe idea of thsi is to melt a small portion of each side of plastic and when it dries, then the bond will be the strongest. Hence, when/if you try to take it apart, there may be some probelms. It depends on how much you used.

Why take it apart ........ paint what you can of the chasis, and with the use of some cunning weathering, you can hide or disguise what you cant reach! A little over spray of dust will hide everything. Just another option!

I use as little as I can if its a small part or if the seam can be seen. I could try it, but the kit cost me $55 at the only hobby store where I live. If I ruin it I won't be too impressed. And yes, you could spray it and hide the mono-tone chassis. I on the other hand have a junk airbrush and brush paint everything. (even the base coat)

I'll have to agree w/plasticbattel...even a bad airbrush would do for weathering/dust/overspray. If the glue you used works so good, then CUT the pieces off that are in the way, paint the areas needed and reassemble. Weathering should then hide the places you might damage by cutting. Unless your building a showroom version of the hummer and don't want the weathering...the I would buy another kit, cut the parts off that are in the way, replace w/new parts from new kit. That leaves you some spare parts for your next build or dio. As the exploded remains of a humvee in iraq.

Just a thought...it's early and i need coffee

Good luck

Thanks for all your help. I'm building it as a ODS Hummer so a dust coat would be better than breaking something. Next time I build one I'll plan it out and paint as I go along.
